My 11yo niece must be going through a "phase", she dyed her hair purple!

I was at the folks' for Thanksgiving and my niece comes in and my first reaction is "Skylar, what did you do to your HAIR!?!" :rofl:

1. A few years ago my nephew showed up for T'day with a mohawk

His mother (my sister) really got him back, though. The only thing she said was, "It would look better purple." I found out later that the next day she went out, bought purple hair dye and helped him dye his hair purple. She was a little mad at her daughter who had helped him shave his head - she outlined the mohawk area then let him finish the sides on his own.

He outgrew it, so to speak. I figure hair is an easy battle to let them win.

13 yr old daughter with red(like realy red) hair and wanting to add blonde streaks to the back, and my 17yr old son just died his hair blue. I guess they could be up to worse things right?

A long time ago my SO was arguing with him about whatever statement it was that he needed to make at the time with his hair. I settled the argument by saying, "Let him do whatever he wants with his hair. He's old enough to look stupid if he wants to."

It's true though! IMO teens should not be coddled. They should be allowed to screw up and embarrass themselves as long as it's nothing super-dangerous or really wrong. It's the only way they will learn things like self-control.

5. When she was 14, my fizzgig

let her sister "accidentally on purpose" shave her head! I do have to say, though, she pulled it off well. She has a perfectly shaped head. Her dad was not at all pleased! :rofl:

10. I actually saw a baby/toddler yesterday with a little patch of his hair dyed

green. That's the youngest I have ever seen anything like that! Rather surprising!

11. When my daughter was 14, she begged to have platinum streak in her

dark brown hair. Dad finally agreed but ONLY if done by salon. A couple weeks after, she came home with one very blue streak, dad went ballistic. I thought it looked cute, I told him, she does good in school, doesn't drink or do drugs, she isn't pregnant, PICK YOUR BATTLES!!!!! He then realized YET AGAIN.. I was right :evilgrin:

15. My daughter gets to dye her hair when she gets all A's.....

It's only happened once before, and she wanted
to bleach her beautiful brown, curly hair blond.

The hairdresser talked her out of it (upkeep!),
and instead, she bleached the bottom half of her
hair blond and then colored the ends of it pink
and green, then she dyed the top of her hair black.

It actually looked pretty on her, however, when it
began to fade, the green started looking like seaweed....

Now she is a junior in high school and she is looking
at another all A report card this marking...

she also wants to dye her hair purple (light lavender,
almost GRAY!)

Again...I thing the upkeep will be tough for this, and
at at least $150 for the hair coloring, I will NOT be
paying for her touch-ups.

i had purple hair for a couple years -- poured a bottle of sebastian's "purple" hair dye (permanent) over my brown hair. i loved it. it was like an optical illusion--you couldn't really see it in normal indoor lighting but stand under fluorescents or get out in the sun and it was like... "wait a minute--is your hair purple?"

it was cool.
