type freaks- what typeface makes you think of india?

doing a little project for a gd class. it is a little book of pics i took of my trip to india. i am sure there is good face out there for this, but nothing is really coming to mind.
have lots and lots of fonts, so i hope i will have your suggestion. if not, i hope there is a free one out there.

if i get desperate, i may use bangle, just because it is currently sort of my favorite.

1. I have run across at least font that appeared to resemble Sanskrit.

I cannot recall its name, but a perusal of font sources might turn it up.

7. ok, these suggestions were great but

they aren't readable enough. even a victorian sort of font would be possible, as the evidence of the raj is all over, and a couple pics actually deal with that.
