How do you figure out which 3 things to count for the "comes in 3's" thing?

So far in the last 2 weeks, I have -

1. Locked my keys in my car and since I don't have a spare key (my spare key broke and I need to have one specially ordered/made through the dealer because everything about new cars is complicated, even the keys), had to wait in the freezing cold and rain for an hour and a half for a lockout service truck.

2. Got kicked (well, actually punched) in the face by my darling horse, breaking four or maybe five bones in the process.

3. Had the battery in my car die so I had to get jump starts from friends and strangers for a day until I could get to the parts store and get a new battery.


But now I have a cold, which is a real pain in the ass because you would not believe how much it hurts to blow your nose when you have four (or maybe five) broken bones in your face.


So my question is, does this mean I've counted something I shouldn't have or does the cold start a new list of three? Which would really suck.

There are 6 stitches under there - the band-aid reminds me not to rub them when they itch.

5. Other than sympathy, I don't know what to say. I've never been kicked in the face by a horse.

Apparently, I've been fortunate.

I don't do the "bad luck in 3s" thing - I do the "I hate winter/holidays" gripe - when everything goes wrong and costs a lot of money

4. Good idea - maybe I'll switch to that one

I could never figure out the 3's thing anyway. I mean, what's the time period? Is there a limit or do you just keep counting until you hit 3 even if it takes ten years? Seems quite arbitrary really. Your method can encompass so much more.

6. I'm working on the much more difficult "Death comes in twelves"

Which my father in law announced yesterday. And that they only happen in Spring and Fall. Still trying to figure out his thinking/dementia on that pronouncement.
