3. Rolling Stone recently ran a nice piece on Charles Portis...
...basically described him as one of those "literary best-kept secrets" who's about to become a star to a whole new audience through this remake.

6. I like the John Wayne film.

I don't see any need to remake it. The Coen brother become the latest in a too-long line of people who feel the need to make a film, even though they haven't any new ideas to bring to the screen.

7. They've already done a remake years ago - The Ladykillers.
To a degree, I agree with you that it is a bit disappointing that even a writing/producing team with the imagination of the Coens are bothering with remakes (especially since "The Ladykillers" sucked). OTOH, they've been doing pastiche from Hollywood's Golden Age their entire career, so it's not *that* much of a departure from their norm.

If it's good, I'll be happy.

Plus, I hate John Wayne, so no problems with sacred cows for me.

12. Okay.
I was aware The Ladykillers had been remade, wasn't aware it was the Coens.

I hope for your sake it's good. :bounce:

But I doubt I'll see it either way. :hi:

8. I agree.
I like the original. Although I like the Coen brothers, I have no desire to see this movie.

11. I haven't got flamed as much as I thought
:)

I like the Coen brothers films I've seen, though I know I haven't seen them all.

We seem to be in very close agreement on this topic. You agreed with my comment, I agree with yours. :toast: :pals:

And I especially don't want to see if it they have that scene from the original where Kim Darby fell into a pit of snakes.

17. more of a book adaptation than remake.
which means a more darker, probably more gruesome film , which would be right up their alley. :-)
