Playboy Releases Back Issues on Hard Disk
By Jeff Bertolucci, PCWorld Nov 30, 2010 5:11 pm

Nothing conjures up images of smoking jackets, pipe aroma, and silicone implants quite like Playboy--which, like every other print magazine, is struggling to stay relevant in the Internet era. Well, Hef and Co. have come up with a revenue booster just in time for the stocking-stuffer season: 56 years of Playboy on a 250GB hard drive.

The "collector's edition" costs $300 and includes every print issue from December 1953 through December 2009. "That's 56 incredible years of Playboy--over 650 issues, more than 100,000 pages--all at your fingertips," reads the publisher's promo copy.

Yes, there's a "fingertips" joke in there somewhere. Feel free to share in the Comments section.

The Playboy drive comes with Bondi Digital Publishing's magazine-browsing software, which is also used by magazine's online archive of back issues.

3. back in 8th grade we found a ton of them in my friend's attic
he had just moved in and the issues were from the 70's. I was relieved when I got to 3rd base years later and found that it wasnt a huge angry hairball

4. Playboy? Meh.
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 06:17 PM by TheMightyFavog
Wake me up if they do the same thing with Hustler or Penthouse.

Although, some of the articles would be good reads, and it would be cool to see Shel Silverstien's work...

6. These Kids Today With The Digital Playboys
In my day, you had to buy your playboy in a store and hope that the cashier didn't judge you!

There was an element of shame when buying your porn, and that's the way it was.

9. If someone were to catalogue Jung's archetypes I'm sure Jan Roberts would...
rate as the primal 60's blonde.

13. That nice soft body would probably compensate in some way for the helmet hair.
Anyway, as delectable as the '60's Playmates were, my fave is 70's Playmate Nancy Cameron:

14. I worked on the project to digitize the issues.
It's really quite a collection.

The quality is unsurpassed.

We also did Rolling Stone, that was quite a lot of fun to do.

15. I'd love to read that 1972 issue...
The one that zinged my town, Sheboygan didn't live down the "Sin City" moniker until the Reader's Digest gave it the "#1 Family Friendly" title about 15 years ago.
