8. In fact
The only reason WV exists is because the residents of North and western Virginia decided in 1867(if my WV history serves me) is because they felt it was wrong to own black people. Which I suppose makes it an inherently Democratic State.

9. I think Virginia is beautiful, but W. Va. is wild and wonderful and
has the greatest statesman now alive as its Senator, Senator Robert Byrd. And Jay isn't dogmeat like we have across the state line in Kentucky.

10. I had the honor
In 1997 I was youth governor of WV, and when The youth governors from all 50 states met up in DC for a week I got to Meet Mr. Byrd. I was an 18 year old kid with no connections to him whatsoever and he met with me in his office for over 30 minutes. We discussed the history and future of the state and he was very interested in the youth of the state and their interests in politics and public service. The whole time his secretary kept hounding him to get me out for the next meeting. He waved her off twice before giving her a very stern talking too telling her he realized his next meeting was important but that ours was important to him as well. After we had concluded talking he walked me out of his office and his secretary introduced him to the man he had kept waiting and it was the prime minister of turkey. We are lucky to have him as a west Virginian and as an American.
