What happened to the new police chief Minneapolis got?
There was a black guy and a white guy running for it.

Whitey won because those running the city and state are repukes.

Of course, what happens after whitey gets hired? He starts firing female officers. A pattern he had done at his PREVIOUS assignment.

It's been dead silence on the "news" since.

1. ummm...that's not quite right.
the mayor of mpls. is a DFLer.
white guy, mcmanus, did get himself into a shitstorm straight out of the box by suspending the top three people in the department.
one was a woman.
they have all been reinstated and mcmanus gave a partial apology for the terms he used.
there was a memo that supposedly went missing.
it had to do with an officer ... i believe he is Hmong or Vietnamese ... that got shot and critically injured by another cop while on an undercover buy operation.
the idea was that the top people were covering up for white cops who fucked up in shooting the asian undercover cop, who will probably never work in law enforcement again.
mcmanus should have had his ducks in a row before he went after these people. that is not to say he should not have gone after them.

3. Well, you definitely keep up with the news...
I usually am unfortunate enough to see snippets. In general, the news is unreliable...

Sounds like corruption when memos and things "go missing"... Makes me proud... </sarcasm>

2. what in the world is happening to MN? something in the water??
to go from Wellstone to complete 'fall to pieces'????

lots of young people voted for Ventura, I heard

did they lose heart when he turned out to be not so good?

or did they lose interest when he left because 'politics is boring'?

after 20+ years in IA and lots of trips to Minneapolis, current events in MN just don't make any sense

4. Ventura, selfish prick, took advantage of the situation...
Edited on Wed Mar-31-04 06:59 PM by HypnoToad
Instead of making a 3rd party look like a serious player in the game of politics, he just sat back and abused the system, while crying "me me me!" all the while when he did his silly or selfish stunts.

Of course, he was better early on when he ranted in Playboy magazine about organized religion and believers of, but when he learned the truth about the myth of "free speech" in America...

His "rebate checks", cuts on car tab fees, et cetera, were his own too. If I cared, I'd look up his interests then compare them to what he'd done in office. I only vaguely recall, but a lot that he got through more-than-coincidentially benefitted himself...

His moonlighting was pretty bad too. Even "Monicagate" :eyes: wasn't as bad. (Where the hell did "____gate" come from anyway? "Watergate" is the full name of a hotel...)

5. At least Ventura vetoed
bills put forth by the right wing. I think he vetoed an abortion consent bill. He also is an outspoken proponent of gay rights.

The stupid car tab rebate checks and other idiotic proposals bugged me, but in terms of upholding a liberal social agenda in MN...he helped.
