I was in bed by 10, which might have had something to do with CNN.
CNN's coverage from Times Square, with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin, was spectacularly bad. All night, Cooper teased a special phone call they would be getting from a surprise guest. When the moment finally arrived, the surprise special guest caller turned out to be--TA-DA--Anderson Cooper's mother!
It would have been more entertaining if Griffin had been allowed to swear. But NOOooo. CNN had a producer standing off-camera, doing nothing but holding up a sign in front of Griffin that said, "NO SWEARING" (Cooper even showed the sign at one point). The closest Griffin got to potty-mouthing was one reference to "rhymes with 'smoosh.'"
The "highlight" was Griffin periodically punching Cooper in the stomach. Hilarious it was not.
This is the season when everybody tries to save Christmas from the Grinch. Won't somebody PLEASE think about saving New Year's Eve from CNN?
