Everyone who hasn't smoked today is awesome.
Edited on Sat Jan-01-11 01:29 PM by WilliamPitt
Especially if they pledged to quit for New Year's.

Me = 32 days and counting.

It can be done.

Go.

:toast:

On edit: this post was not meant to denigrate smokers. I was one for 20 years, my wife still is, most of my friends are, and so is my mom. This post was aimed at people who chose today to quit. My FB page is blowing up with posts from the newly-quitted...one of whom, btw, is a fellow named Matcom. :)

1. And many people who did smoke today are also awesome.
Edited on Sat Jan-01-11 01:00 PM by Heidi
I'm hella proud of you, Will, and am more glad than you know that you're extending your presence in the world. But let's not discount the fact that there are many achievements equal to not smoking.

ETA: The veterinarian who (on the day before New Year's Eve) worked on his vacation to euthanize the 15-year-old feral cat we were helping (Little Old Man was in the last stages of FIV and disabled by total hearing loss in both ears, glaucoma in his right eye) is a smoker. His practice is on the first floor of a villa in Locarno and he lives on the upper floors; when I open the door to his office, cigarette smoke rolls out. I hate it; it makes my hair and clothes stink like hell. But he's one of the most awesome, kind, compassionate human beings I've ever been privileged to know. He smoked today, and he's awesome.

8. I am so sorry, Heidi.
Thank you for taking care of him and giving him security and warmth the last couple of weeks of his life. Wish he could have enjoyed it a little longer.

3. I haven't smoked in 34 years...
I was 16 and didn't even finish the pack. I realized that it wasn't for me. Good luck to everyone who is trying to quit.

24. I love the flavors
Huge variety. I'm currently using cotton candy. It is alright. I like blueberry and strawberry/banana the best. There are still hundreds of flavors I've yet to try though.

15. I smoked 2.5 packs a day of Marlboros for 14 years, and have now quit for 26 years.
hardest and best thing I have ever done.

You have already done it, and can do it forever. Congratulations. If you can do it this long, you can do it infinitely.

16. If you were smoking today that 2.5 packs would be about $10-$25 dollars a day
depending on where you live.

I have never smoked but seeing what the cost is today for cigerettes would be the biggest incentive for me to quit.

Here in Delaware it's about $5.50 a pack which is over $2000 a year to maintain that habit. I do not have a spare $2000 to spend on soemthing like that. That's also have the reason why I cut way back on drinking. I will have a glass of red wine 4-5 times a week but I use to blow about $50-100 a weekend partying and I just don't have that kind of cash anymore.

19. In NYC, Cigarettes Are $12/pack
So, that 2.5 packs would be about $30 per day or $10,950 a year.

21. Cigarettes cost about $.90 a pack when I quit, and I thought that was outrageous
I could remember when they were half that price.

Back when gas was $.37 a gallon.
