A rainy day at the beach
New years eve I made plans with my buddy to paddle out if Sunday morning was dry, and of course we wussed out. The rain held off till noon, and during a lull Alley and I stop by the beach after doing a little shopping and water was a pretty slate green/gray. We regretted not having our camera with us. When we got home Man-cub asked for a ride to his friends house, so I grabbed my camera and took a few beach shots as it started to rain.

This is a iconic (for Southern Cal surfers) sight, the "El Porto Stacks".

A couple of guys launching.

Three body surfers heading out, with a longboarder catching a wave in the background.

The rain was picking up, and people were still heading out.

You can see the spray peeling back off the waves. Off shore winds give waves the classic hollow "tube" shape.

Today's temperature was 47 air, and the water was a toasty 54. Everybody was uncomfortable except the tiny little clams.

Thanks for looking..

2. You are thinking of the power station at Bolsa Chica, next door to Huntington Beach.
El Porto is a surf spot at the north end of Manhattan Beach. The city is trying to re-brand El Porto as North Manhattan Beach, but to us, it will always be El Porto.

3. Redondo also has stacks, just a bit to the south. This is the area
where I lived for a few years. In better weather I still like to ride my bike over there to El Tarasco, on Rosecrans.
