Richardo reviews: The King's Speech
Edited on Mon Jan-03-11 12:23 AM by Richardo
See this movie.

It's absolutely brilliant, the story triumphant, the acting fanstastic, and the physical resemblances to well-known historical figures is astonishing.

1. My dear Richardo!
I want to see it...

I love historical dramas, and the cast in this one is just plain stellar.

I'll probably wait till it's available on Netflix, though...

Thanks for the recommendation!

:hi:

Hope to see it soon, Richardo. I saw Black Swan over the weekend and wished I had seen King's Speech instead.

12. I've heard that's a pretty intense, dark movie in a lot of ways.
King's Speech was intense in its own way, but not like that. :hi: tigereye!! :pals:

9. ROFL I knew what that was going to be before I clicked on it
And--ahem--I just watched all eight hours of P&P over the weekend! Got the DVDs for Christmas. (But no, I didn't go back and rewatch that scene. Because I know it all too well. )

15. Dude's career is so meta
What with that and Bridget Jones and all. Oh no--does that mean he has a sense of humor? Because if he does, PLUS the looks, PLUS the sex-ay, PLUS the talent...oh dear...

17. I told one of my friends who also loves Colin Firth
"Who's going to play him in the 2nd movie?" LOL!!!

Too bad they killed the best line in book one---about him being named "Darcy" & acting all snotty at a party. :spray:

16. As I rewatched it over the weekend, I realized
that what I liked better than the "lake scene" was all the smoldering looks he was giving Lizzie. Ai yi yi...

18. I agree with everything except the physical resemblances comparison.
I think Colin Firth looked nothing like the real George VI. But I think his performance was excellent.

Colin Firth as King George VI.

The real thing.

20. Saw this today at the local multiplex and loved it!
I was surprised not only that it played there instead of the arthouse theater, but that we had a sizable crowd for an early afternoon matinee. Then I came home and found out it was playing to packed or nearly packed theaters all over (which is probably the reason Hollywood 12 decided to book it). Both Firth and Rush give excellent performances. Guy Pierce is pretty good too as Edward. I don't purchase many movies on DVD, but I think I'll pick this one up when it comes out.

the only actor I didn't like was the one who played Winston - I thought he looked and sounded like a caricature

26. One of the best movies I've ever seen.
The performances are utterly astonishing. Especially Colin Firth.
I've seen him interviewed a few times, and I think he has a sense of humor and humility, on top of everything else.
Sigh.

27. Colin Firth has to be one of my favourite actors. He's so cute. I'm going
to wait until this comes out on video so I can watch it with my parents who are both anglophiles.
