Favorite Pete Postlethwaite movie
You'd almost want to say "The Usual Suspects" because at one point you really did think he was Keyser Soze. But honestly, I think his best role would be the father in "In the Name of the Father". He really played a great counterpoint to Daniel Day-Lewis' Gerry Conlan in that movie.

He also had a small but very pivotal role in "Inception"

1. I think his interpretation of the Friar in "Romeo + Juliet" was incredible.
Just incredible.

3. He's done alot of priest roles. Did a priest for the remake of "The Omen"
I think it was his unusual face structure that garnered him parts like this.

13. Yeah, I always think of him in that role. He made it memorable without making it farcical.
Not everyone pulls that off.

That was an interesting movie. There were a lot of really good performances in it, and I usually love the way Luhrmann directs. Somehow the movie fell short anyway. I think it tried too hard to be trendy and not hard enough to be a movie. But i still watch it from time to time. Harold Perrineau was a really good Mercutio. Definitely one of my favorite Postlethwaite roles.

I love seeing that I wasn't the only one who noticed and liked this guy.

4. I didn't really like "The Usual Suspects". It was a rather lame film.
Sorry, but I just didn't like it.

5. His talents were in demand by all of the top film makers.
In 2010 alone he was in three big films.

Clash Of The Titans

Inception

The Town

He was wonderful in the 1996 Romeo and Juliet.

and, given his character's fate, I'll definitely cry the next time I see it.

10. He first caught my attention in "In the Name of the Father".
Somehow he has been not only believable, but exceptional in everything I have seen him in. He really seemed to have a great depth of character and the intelligence/talent to bring whatever role he was playing to life with that same depth.

11. 'In The Name Of The Father' is when I really took notice of him as an actor.
That's a Pete Postlethwaite movie to me. First one I think of whenever his name is mentioned.

14. Two performances come to mind: DARK WATER and INCEPTION.
Edited on Mon Jan-03-11 05:19 PM by Mike 03
I didn't see his greatest works, but when I saw his picture today and saw that he had died, I knew in an instant that I had seen him give great performances in two movies that meant a lot to me, DARK WATER and INCEPTION.

15. I'm a bit skeptical about "Inception". It was a pivotal role for the movie but...
Edited on Mon Jan-03-11 05:25 PM by LynneSin
he barely spoke more than a few words. I mean he was a dying man a bed. Tom Beringer has more impact in the movie than Pete. I think the reason Pete got the role was the fact that Cillian Murphy has the same bizarro looking cheek structure and ruddish complexion

I mean those 2 look like they could be real life father and son.

17. I totally respect what you are saying.
The reason I mention this role is that I was moved when I saw his face, because I recognized it, but I didn't know why. Maybe that was not the best example. But I stand by my defense of Dark Water.

..."Danny Boy." It makes me laugh and cry, not necessarily in that order.

20. another +1 from me
I love Brassed Off and when I think of Pete Postlethwaite, I think of his character in that movie. The most dignified, brass band conducting miner I can think of.
