is it too decadent to use my fox fur as a smoking jacket?

it was socially acceptable to hate fur (or smokers for that matter). and to my way of thinking, I am honoring those lil foxes every time I wear it, they could have been nothing but dust by now otherwise.

that sux about your pipes, that happened to our hot water a couple winters ago

luckily nothing burst, but needed to unfreeze the metal coupling on the pipe. but we sure as he11 got a blanket for the heater and got that access door buttoned up ASAP :rofl:

11. I have one kind of like that in white.

Used to belong to my grandmother, came from a Baltimore department store in the 1950s. It's in pretty much like-new condition.

I don't know what to do with it. I don't really want to wear it in public, because I don't want people to think that I think making NEW fur coats is OK. But it is really beautiful and warm and a family heirloom, and refusing to wear it won't bring the foxes back.

It just hangs in the closet.

12. sadly, that's the case with so many furs

they just dry rot away instead of getting worn and giving a purpose to the lil foxes' sacrifice.

sadly, it's probably ruined now if you haven't cold stored it. foxes tend to shed badly once the skins dry out.

and since i wear leather and eat meat I wear my vintage furs with pride and gratitude, none of my coats is newer than 25 years old but they have been lovingly cared for. I would have bought and discarded a bunch of manmade coats in those years.

edit to add, if I lived in the Chicago winters, I'd sure be wearing it!! LOL. just tell anybody it's a vintage jacket and fur is a sustainable resource (both true in the this case eh?)

I'll do something with storing it better - I do value it as an heirloom. I've only had it for a few months. I don't know if my parents did anything special with it; I think it was in a box for 20 years. It still looks good, but I didn't know how to care for it. Thanks!

but take it to a furrier first and get it glazed and inspected. I know one in Arlington Hgts if that close to you.

edit to add, no plastic or wire hangers either, get one like this and a cloth garment bag to protect it from bugs too
