Am I the last remaining Blues hater?
Modern blues, that is. I can't stand the overproduced crap that comes out of Chicago these days. That goes for Memphis, too. I was in Beale Street not too long ago, at BB King's club. There was some boring blues band on stage playing 'Sweet Home Chicago,' or 'Shotgun' or something equally tired, and the entire dance floor was full of mustachioed middle-aged white men, with their print golf shirts tucked into their pleated cargo shorts. It was kind of sad.

When I want to hear the blues, I'll listen to:
Elmore James
Slim Harpo
Bukka White
Howlin' Wolf
Muddy Waters
Albert King
Lightnin' Hopkins
Robert Johnson
Willie Dixon

1. GODDAMN RIGHT
There's a story about Bob Dylan in which he's looking for a blues guitarist for one of his albums. His producer brings him records of all these blues musicians. After a few minutes of listening, Bob cuts the record off and says "I want the REAL blues, not this B.B. King shit!"

That about sums up my philosophy on blues music.

3. Ha! I thought I'd be flamed!
'Beer Commercial Blues' is the perfect name for it, too.

4. Well, I Like BB King and Taj Mahal

but I agree with the bland overproduced sound that sometimes passes for blues is no better than any of the other pap on Top 40 stations.
