Wow, some kid had a car that was a bigger shitbox than mine.
Went to my local mechanic to get an oil change today, and saw that one of the cars outside his shop had been burnt out. Apparently some high school kid had brought his car in to get fixed, my mechanic started his car to get a look at the engine, and when he turned the key, it sparked a fire in the interior. Fortunately he had the door open and was able to get out unharmed. The car though, was a goner.

2. Was it a Mercury Grand Marquis?
I had a late 90's model years ago that was the subject of a recall for 'spontaneous combustion'. I kid you not... the key didn't even have to be in the ignition, or the car running... just POOF for no apparent reason. :nuke:

Everyone who had that make and model had to bring them into the dealership, and we were given loaner cars. The situation was considered so dangerous that Ford/Mercury sent urgent cautions to not even park the vehicles near buildings or anything that could catch fire from the burning vehicle, until they could be fixed.

5. Nope. It was an Oldsmobile.
One of the two-door coupes, looked to be about early-mid 90s vintage.

6. Alternator plug - simple fix.
I've had 2 - wiring is complex, but not that bad.

I'v also owned 2 Oldsmobiles, similar to the one described. The insulation on the wires themselves was starting to crack and deteriorate, and that was 10 years ago.....
