I used to go see this guy EVERY time he came to my relatively small town
in Pennsylvania. About 6'6" or 7", a bodybuilder who, when he took the
stage, owned the joint, the town, the state, your SO... your MOM!!!
.
I rarely saw such stage presence (Bo Diddley and Ted Nugent come to mind).
Yet in between sets, I would talk to him at the bar and he was one of the
most soft-spoken, sweet men you'd ever want to meet.
.
A contemporary of George Thorogood, they've played on each other's albums.
They both play wireless guitars and legend has it that they were playing
across the street from each other and, during the middle of their guitar
solos while wandering through the crowd... wandered out the door, exchanged
guitars as they passed, and walked into the OTHER bars still jamming.
.
I believe that legend.
.
As you'll see in this video, he used to wander and people would hand him
things to play slide guitar with. If you stick with it, you'll see him play
with a FREAKIN' BARSTOOL!!!! He's slowing down in his old age -- when I saw
him, he held the stool by the BOTTOM of one of the legs to play.
.
But he'll get around to a bottom a little later.
.
Crowds did NOT sit down when he played.
