peeps! check your vehicle for cats hiding, before starting off
Today I was walking down the busy street and saw something fly out of the back of an older pickup that had a tarp over garden trash. As the truck whizzed on down the street, I realized it was a cat spreadeagled flying through the air. No!

The neighborhood crows alerted me to the location of kitty, in a stand of bushes. I saw it -- a beautiful plush black cat with yellow-green eyes. It vocalized to me -- answered me back. Obviously a pet. A beautiful pet.

I walked home for a cage to see if I could keep it safe. It was still talking to me but I couldn't see it through the thick bushes. I went inside the office building to tell people about it. When I came back it sounded not so strong. And then it stopped meowing to me. Oh kitty. Oh kitty. Impossible to get through the thick thick bushes to try to reach it.

I could only leave a tin of food there and go to craigslist and hang up signs. I'll go check again after a bit.

2. I just went back to check on it
Still hiding in the bushes. Did meow at me, back and forth.

I went to the fire station a block away to let them know if a cat comes hanging 'round that it jumped out of a truck. Also hung up a flier on the telephone pole nearby.

I'll go back later tonight and see if it will come to me after traffic has calmed down.

I got a response on craigslist, but the user name is devilslittlegirl and I'm thinking....uh.....black cat. No.

3. A friend of my mom...
Found a stray kitten in the parking lot of her work building one day. A kitten that looked very much like a stray that another coworker had seen in a town about 16 miles away. In fact, it was so like that cat (which wasn't seen anymore after this incident) that we surmised that the only possible thing that could have happened was that the cat had crawled up in the undercarriage of the guy's truck and travelled the whole 16 mile trip and then crawled out of its hiding place. She named the little kitten "Hobo" and adopted it, with the entire office helping her pay for the initial doctor visits and shots.

4. got the kitty!
Will get a photo when he/she comes out from behind the toilet. It took a lot of patience, but kitteh was finally coaxed and petted until it could be held by nape of neck and removed from twiggy bush lair.

Would not go in cage, so a bit dicey. But I had a cat whisperer with me who was able to comfort kitteh and get him/her home.

Will look now to see where I can get kitteh scanned for microchip.

Peeps! Put collars on your animals!

6. I honk my horn before I even start the car
The noise from the car horn scares any kitty hiding inside the engine or underneath the vehicle. But where I live, few if any cats are seen at large; there's a local law prohibiting animals from running loose, thank God.

7. this is a well fed cat
A little hissy this morning and obviously wants to go home. I just have to find out where that is. It's a real pain to try to keep it separated from my other kittehs and dog in this tiny apartment.

9. Good practice
I know of 3 cats killed by the fan blades/belts of a starting engine. All were in colder weather, all were barn cats.
