The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in hockey--
--in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.

6. Skulls often crack upon moderate to severe impact
Helmets provide the protection of the skull by doing the cracking for it. Better a cracked helmet than permanent brain damage.

5. Let's just put it this way
It took 100 years for hockey players to protect the head on their shoulders instead of just the head underneath their hips.
