Word from Redstone
Edited on Mon Jan-31-11 06:21 PM by Lasher
I left a PM for our friend Redstone, being concerned because we'd not seen much from him lately. I don't know if he's suffered yet another trauma but here is what he said:

Still a little whooped up, sore ribs & jaw & another damn hospital visit and all, but getting back though slowly...thanks for your concern, mon frere.

I'll reply to him with news of my latest surgery, which pretty much am ammounts to just a flesh wound - particularly compared to his challenges. I hope that I might some day be manly like Redstone, and just operate on myself.

7. Thank you, my dear Lasher...
I call him from time to time, and I haven't recently. I need to get going and do that...

I'm glad you contacted him. I know he appreciates it.

8. OK, more from Redstone!
Edited on Tue Feb-01-11 07:10 AM by Lasher
Lasher: I had another surgery on Friday. They found still-green grass clippings in my wounds, left from the three September operations. Duh. ...and clear indication of a serious infection. There is a chance I could lose my foot now but at least I have what I firmly believe to be a good surgeon. I wish I could have had you doing my initial surgery instead of that dickhead Dr. Bevis.

But what the heck, just a flesh wound.

Redstone: Holy hell! (I had a similar experience: The first surgery I had on my left shoulder was analogous to a frame-off restoration of a car. Because Doctor Fucking Butthead had my arm in the wrong position, I ended up with a damaged suprascapular nerve and unending pain. A second surgery in 2001 did't fix it.)

Losing a FOOT just a flesh wound? You're a better man (or at minimum a tougher one) than I, Gunga Din.

Redstone

Me tougher than Redstone? Hell, he does his own sutures like Patrick Swayze in Road House! No way I'm that tough. I start crying like a 2 year old if I just think of doing such a thing.

I probably won't lose my foot BTW, it's just a possibility. I'm pretty sure I'll be doing heavy IV antibiotics via a PICC line.

It's cool that you check on him, Peggy. I'll remember you have his number.

11. Feh. Sutures don't hurt near as much as getting nailed by a
fish hook to the flesh, which God knows I've felt way too many times (that's what you get when you specialize in trout fishing, because you're generally stalking the fish on small streams with lots of brushy tangle on the banks).

Thanks for getting the Lounge folks updated.

13. Guess what, I go back under the knife tomorrow.
Edited on Wed Feb-02-11 05:03 PM by Lasher
My surgeon has to go back in because I have a hematoma. Doctor mashed on my foot yesterday to get as much of the blood out as she could in the office, then wondered why I looked pale. I revealed all our troop strength and position.

They got the biopsy results back. Said the infection was terracotta or something like that. I guess I have pottery of the foot. They removed brown flesh and bone during last Friday’s operation. Said they got down to the good. So it’s official, there is some good left in me.

As I suspected, I am going to have a PICC line inserted. That’s so I can take heavy antibiotics via IV for 6 weeks.

I know what you are saying about fishing hooks, being an avid trout fisherman myself.

Keep on keepin' on, Redstone.
