1. I love the Beach Boys -- well, except for Mike Love, who treated Brian so badly.
When I was downloading some BB songs awhile back, I clicked on one I saved without hearing it first. A very twangy voice started singing "Warmth of the Sun" & it was such an unexpected sound, it was hilarious. It was Willie Nelson, & after hearing it a few times, I actually like it as much as the BB's version, especially with the harmonica:

2. When I was just a toddler in the early 60s, my family moved to Hawthorne, Ca. from Indiana...
Well, there was this house right behind us; and the kids who lived there were always playing their music loud, keeping us awake at night. My dad, who is a Korean War veteran, would go out in his underwear and yell at the kids to quit playing their music so loud. As it turns out, he was yelling at the Beach Boys. I was too young at the time, so I don't remember it. My sister does, though; and she laughs about it all the time. My mother is dead; but she always laughed about it, too.

I think Mr. Leonard was a teacher who was always yelling at the kids :)

'Good Vibrations' is a masterpiece of pop music-making.

5. old mark, I have to bookmark this.
I love the Beach Boys (grew up in San Clemente); but I think I'd be drowned in a wave of nostalgia if I listened now. Have to come back and listen when I'm better prepared, emotionally.

Thanks for posting! :hi:

6. I just got the double CD "Hawthorne, CA"...it's a very interesting album of studio outtakes and
different arrangements that gives you a great insight into how much work they put into their recording and how much they loved doing it all.

Brian evidently carries the entire complete song-with all its individual vocal and instrumental parts-in his head, and puts it all together till it sounds like what he imagines...

People say he is a genius, and I think that still under rates him.

I have been a fan since the early '60's when I was in high school.

7. "Caroline, No"
tp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCI5wZRn9iE

Where did your long hair go
Where is the girl I used to know
How could you lose that happy glow
Oh, Caroline no

Who took that look away
I remember how you used to say
You'd never change, but that's not true
Oh, Caroline you

Break my heart
I want to go and cry
It's so sad to watch a sweet thing die
Oh, Caroline why

Could I ever find in you again
Things that made me love you so much then
Could we ever bring 'em back once they have gone
Oh, Caroline no

9. I'll see how many (or few) I can narrow it down to...
of the early surf and car songs : Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe, Fun Fun Fun, Spirit of America, Wendy,Warmth of the Sun, Girl Don't Tell Me, Help Me Rhonda, and Surfin' U.S.A.

The later , more "sophisticated' stuff: another vote for Caroline No...Sail on Sailor, God Only Knows, Wouldn't It Be Nice, Surfs Up (probably THE masterpiece right there)....Trader,Long Promised Road, Till I Die, ...and their wonderful and unique covers of I Can Hear Music, and Cottonfields (" brother only one thing more that's gonna warm you, a summer's day out in California")

Since most people (?) know most of these, I'll post just 2 or 3 (or 4 or 5.....) that maybe some here are not familiar with:

mental hospital where I worked...we agreed that they were occasionally very goofy, but then just got you right in the heart.

I loved this band since my high school days, and I'm still finding new music of theirs that astounds me.

Some of the stuff Brian does with his touring band is really fine.

For example, "Smile", here from NPR...
