Chowderfest...Saratoga Springs, NY
This was my first visit to an annual event going back 13 years. Saratoga is a party town. Known for it's horse racing track that dates back to the 1800's. I go to the races once each year. No big deal to to me personally, but horse racing is part of the culture here.
Saratoga is a small city. Just the right size if you ask me. Walkable. It also has enough parking that folks can park a car and walk to most of the shops, restaurants, art gallery's and museums.
I guess by now you are wondering about the chowder fest. There were baby's in all forms and dogs got chowder for dogs. There were about 60 vendors. I only ate at 7. The variety was awesome. Each 3 oz cup was 1 dollar and it all went to local charities. Best 7 dollars I ever spent. Of course there is more. The local economy was given a boost and the waitstaff had a record day. I spent way more on wine and bush mills and beer than I spent on the chowder. But that was the point of the chowder fest wasn't It? Next year I promise to eat 14 competitors chowders. Party locally eat locally.
CHOWDA Rocks!
