I'm having hernia surgery tomorrow, and I'm scared
just routine they say, but a friend went in for "routine" and died.
I have had a few before so this ain't my first time under the knife.

But I have a weird vibe about this one.

I cant put it off as I need to get back to work asap.

I just cant shake this fealing...

2. My dear DiverDave...
It is very, very normal to be scared ahead of even routine surgery. That means that you are in touch with reality...

Believe me, you would not be undergoing this if your doctor had any questions about your ability to withstand it.

I suspect that what happened to your friend was a true accident. These do happen, but they are very rare...

Please take care and try to not worry, OK? Worrying can't do you any good...

And do let us know how it went once you're able, OK?

I'll keep you in my thoughts for tomorrow, and for as long as you need...

3. Acceptance and love are the key. I thought much the same
when I went in, also.
And people also said the same, oh, it's easy, it's simple and all that. You'll be fine, all the reassuring words.
But you are right. Some do go in for something simple and ... it goes bad.
But that is part of the risk you have to accept.
I had never been in for surgery or anything like that, so I thought it was the end. But I realized, that, one way or another, it was inevitable, and that, possibly it would just be a temporary inconvenience.
And it all went fine, and I was all over and done with it with no problems far faster than I could have imagined.
And all the better for it too.
So take a chance.

6. Lots of hugs and vibes.
Something like this is always scary.

It will be over tomorrow and you will be spaced out on pain pills.

14. We'll see you back soon
but probably not today. I had it done about 4 years ago. In the hospital during the afternoon, back home, with pain prescription, in time for primetime TV. :hi:

15. It's okay to be scared
I've had four major surgeries, and without exception, every one of them had a weird vibe. It helps to place faith in the doctors and nurses, who are all very skilled and who handle similar surgeries all the time.

19. I had a minor surgery a year ago.
I was scared, too. I left a sweet note to my wife and sons in my desk, you know, just in case. It turned out to be one of the easiest things I've ever done. Even the scar is barely noticeable.

But waking up was the greatest feeling I think I had all year. I knew it was over, and that all my worrying was for nothing. I can't make guarantees, but that is almost certainly how it will go for you too.

And just think. Won't it be great to be rid of that damn hernia?
