I would be outside staring up at the sky. You almost never get to see the stars anymore because of light polution.

1. Oh, that happens quite regularly here

in the Ozarks. No lights around except from my house. The stars are lovely, as are the sounds of the woods. Usually we get an ice storm at least once a year, and our power is out for a week. Then it's really nice, because the ice makes everything sparkle.

6. yes, just trying to look at the bright side

I really love my memories of walking into some lake in the Adirondacks and having it be pitch black on a moonless night. It is a world most people never see.

4. It would be a good time to look at the night skies

Mars is at it's closest to earth in the next couple of centuries. It's quite visible, even with the naked eye.

I do very well without electricity, but no. I'm happy to be able to get my work done, surf the internet and chat with my DU friends, and run my washer and dryer.

9. I'd be in my damn car

..with the motor running and the newly-repaired air conditioner cranked. I did two summers in the heat and this is the first year since 2001 that the damn car is cold.

13. Almost sad when the power came back on

It wasn't unbearably hot on the beach on the south shore of Lake Ontario, nice breeze from our friends in Canada. Our little deadend street had a little gathering of neighbors, cats, and dogs in our neighbors' front yard. We had our brand spanking new generator cranking (that my husband insisted on buying after the ice storm this spring, he was so proud). The granddaughter of people in one of the cottages on the street uses a nebulizer every night so they came to our house to plug in. Not knowing how long we would be out, people were bringing some of there perishables to our house. It was actually nice. Kids were running down to swim in the lake. Power came back on around eleven. Bummer.

I heard about a mother who used to hit the breaker and tell her kids the power was out so that they could have a family night under the stars.

17. No chance...

I was living in Connecticut in 1986 when hurricane Gloria hit. We lost power for 6 days. Luckily, my sister and her husband lived in a neighborhood with underground lines, so she only lost power for a couple of hours.
