Driving in San Jose today was like shooting the rapids

One stretch, on Hillsdale (where there is a light at every effin' intersection) had flood after flood after flood, and you couldn't see them until you drove through them. As I went further, down Alamden Expressway, a small Toyota looked like it was driving into a lake. i was far enough back that I was getting prepared to pull over and help the driver of the car...he lost control for a minute and thank God he was in the middle lane with no one to his immediate left, right, front or back. He pulled out of the swerve and was able to resume normally.

Accuweather says "1.8 inches of rain on the way"...I know that in a lot of the U.S. that would sound like a joke, but right now, for us, it's turning virtually all of the roads into lakes.

1. I hear that.

I'm up in the Peninsula and I practically needed therapy after the drive home. El Camino was an absolute lake. I have a pretty large truck and in one area, the water was up over my rims. {{shudder}} This better be an awesome and glorious summer, and I don't want to hear the word "drought" even once this year.

3. I went out for 10 minutes at work in SF and got drenched

i had a jacket, umbrella and when the rain was heaviest, i was waiting under a covered entryway. i still got drenched.

worse, the rain was so heavy there were inches of water running across the streets AND sidewalks! it was so heavy the metal covers in the sidewalks were shooting and spraying water (forcing me into the street, into standing water).

i was wet all day. my shoes are still wet. :wtf:

4. It goes from "nothing" to "sheets of torrential rain" in the blink of an eye

I came home last Sunday, and when I was about 2 miles from home, it was straight-down sheets of hard rain, bordering on hail...noisy rain...rain normally doesn't make a lot of noise when you're driving!

As I got about a half mile from home, it eased up. When I arrived at the house, no rain, sun peeking through the clouds. Was in the house for about 15 minutes and BLAM...there it was again.

I usually park my car directly across the street from the house. I have to walk down about a block to cross the street because the next door neighbor's tree roots causes flooding at the curb even with a small amount of rain. In the last few days, the "lake" extends from the curb about two feet.

5. I had two trees down at a client's house

I walked around them to see if there was any more damage. It was like walking on a sponge. Each step went, splurg, splurg, splurg.

6. And yet VTA light rail was right on time

on the other hand, the ACE tracks got washed out, so no hipsters getting on at Tasman this morning. (there are usually a group of three who stand right in front of me)
