Aaargh! I hate those damed pop-ups.
Do any of you DU computer gurus know of any way to shut these damned pop-ups off? Sometimes I spend more time closing pop-ups than I do reading the content I am after. I find these things far more intrusive than SPAM - which I can filter.

Please help - if it's possible.

1. google toolbar
try installing this little add-on for internet explorer.
its really good. it adds a google toolbar to your browser and has an automatic pop-up blocker (you can configure a whitelist to let individual pop-ups through)

7. Switch to Mozilla browser or add Google toolbar.
You can keep Explorer on your desktop while you explore using the open source designed Mozilla. I've never had a proble with Mozilla getting on to sites, but keep Explorer in reserve if you want to. If you really want Exploder, it's easy to add a Googletoolbar.

3. Mozilla
If you're using Internet Exploder, there's a long drawn out process which involves setting up trusted zones which are allowed to run active scripting, and putting all others in a restricted zone. There's more information on this than I care to type at http://www.pcpitstop.com/ , but it's much easier to simply use Mozilla. The first time you get a pop-up window, it will ask you if you want to allow this horseshit to go on. If you say no, it's as simple as that :)

4. I Like AdSubtract
Pretty much non-obtrusive although my copy dosen't filter the MSN and AOL pop-up ads.

PM me with your address and I'll send you what I bought.

6. Purely coincidentally...
just hours before the blaster worm appeared, I paid $49.95 for ZoneAlarm Pro. It's a firewall, AND a popup blocker. I love it.

They have a free Firewall version, but it doesn't have the popup blocking. This popup blocker is the best I've used.

8. Thanks to all.
I just loaded the Google blocker and I quickly tried several of the sites that usually send me multiple pop-ups when I access them - and so far not one has appeared. I'll keep a link to this thread though in case I find problems. But loading the Google blocker was fast and simple - and it seems to be working. Thanks again for the help.

10. GOOGLE TOOLBAR HAS SPYWARE!
but you can get around it. When you are installing it, it should ask you if you want to install advanced features, answer no, and there will not be spyware on your comp
