Once and for all: Yoko didn't break up the Beatles.

"If somebody is controlling you--they are not the problem." I heard that in a workshop, and I believe it.

If you're an adult of sound mind, and you're letting someone else control you--then YOU'RE the problem.

John was 29 in 1969, about the time the Beatles broke up, way too old to be letting somebody else control him.

8. Hey no joke..
I worked a version of that line into an actual lab conversation last week. It worked well, though only a couple of people got the reference

9. Once and for all: Yoko ONO was no artist or even creative.
Whenever I was going to knock pool balls as a slop shot, I would yell out, "Yoko ONO!1"

And she certainly inspired a great deal of creativity in him.

15. Yoko wasn't a musician, but one can view her life as performance art.

17. What are your artist/creative person judgment credentials?
...I'm just wondering what, if anything other than your own subjective POV, what gives you, UTUSN, the "once and for all" level of authority?

The apparent self-admitted fact that you hang out in pool halls doing slop shots will be factored into your response.

Respectfully,

GReedDiamond

11. No kidding!
the only person I've ever put on ignore on DU was absolutely rabid about Yoko in a thread - as if she were Cynthia Lennon. Geesh.

16. Didn't George once quip that it was "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" that finally did them in?
Which was basically a nice, funny way of saying "Paul's fault."
I think they were just growing apart creatively and personally, and a myriad of small problems got magnified in that sort of intense environment.

23. When I was a lad we made fun of her. But then
Edited on Wed May-04-11 10:24 AM by CBGLuthier
I grew up and learned of her life and her art.

May not appeal to the masses but WTF should she?

The world today would be a lot more boring without Fluxus.

24. Lots of factors played a role.
They stopped touring, Brian Epstein's death, tensions between Lennon, Harrison and McCartney, their involvement with their Apple company, John involved with Yoko, George involved with the Maharashi etc.

They basically just grew up. Lennon's standard response afterwards to people asking him when the Beatles would get back together was "When you go back to high school."
