The coyotes would stop by outside the Hollywood gated fences and tease the pets, "Hey, man, you ain't serious living there, are you?!1 It's the life out here!1 This is reality!1" Or somesuch.

7. They used to be a fairly regular sight here in Tucson until all the growth.

When I first moved here in 1998, I was headed for work about 7 AM on my bicycle and
had gotten off to walk it on the sidewalk through a humongous post-monsoon puddle
in the street. A dog approached on the sidewalk from the other direction and it was
about 25 feet away or so before I realized it was a coyote. I don't think either of
us felt threatened (though I kept the bike between me and him/her) and it just looked
at me curiously with a tongue-lolling coyote grin as it passed me on the narrow walk.

I didn't see another 'til last year when I was waiting for a bus. It was a fair distance
away crossing a supermarket's parking lot and a busy street towards a residential
neighborhood.

Both these sightings were in what's considered "midtown" in Tucson.

It's part of the reason why NoName was a 100% indoor kitty -- MiddleFingerMomMom
had taught me the French word for outdoor cats in Tucson.

8. Too true. I lost a lovely cat to coyotes.

Not an outdoor guy but got out by accident and I'm sure that's what happened, poor baby. We used to have them all over in the area I lived in before the big move to the city. I really like them, cat notwithstanding.
