Songs for the Rapture
Songs that sound like they have to do with the Rapture, are leading up to it, of L.A.R. (Life After Rapture). Basically anything apocalyptic (and/or post-apocalypse) in scope :D

Here's mine:

Ruper Hine - A Golden Age

I can no longer count the dreams
Inspired by reconstructions of predicted scenes
The glass and metal fragments racing
Through the pointless heat

I can't go on believing this
Have I lived just to witness the last decade
Or a golden age

Still I love the way this new wind whistles through my house
And papers fly
While Orwell's world is still in doubt
And china shivers on a tray
I am untimely ripped from all forgotten bliss
But not afraid

I can't go on
I can't go on believing this
Have I lived just to witness the last decade
Or a golden age

Could the waiting ever be worse than the shock
Suppose the silver key survived
To turn inside the rusty lock
And you and I be found alive
Crouching in our ignorance
By children nearly twice our size

I can't go on believing this
Have I lived just to witness the last decade
Or a golden age

Till they eat their words some wild voice churns deep in my blood
The prophets sigh
We always said you'd never learn
Then cynics long to break the brave
I wish their mouths all stitched so their persistent hiss
Is not obeyed

I can't go on
I can't go on believing this
Have I lived just to witness the last decade
Or a golden age

I do believe there are people needing freedom with good reason
Who will find another way
There's no disgrace in understanding
Why our planet is in panic
Then, while you worry think of everything you miss

1. Hmm, very Rapture-esque. How about this one?
I Wish We'd All Been Ready- Larry Norman

Life was filled with guns and war,

And everyone got trampled on the floor,

I wish we'd all been ready

Children died, the days grew cold,

A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold,

I wish we'd all been ready,

There's no time to change your mind,

The Son has come and you've been left behind.

A man and wife asleep in bed,

She hears a noise and turns her head, he's gone,

I wish we'd all be ready,

Two men walking up a hill,

One disappears and one's left standing still,

I wish we'd all been ready,

There's no time to change your mind,

The Son has come and you've been left behind.

Life was filled with guns and war,

And everyone got trampled on the floor,

I wish we'd all been ready,

Children died, the days grew cold,

A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold,

I wish we'd all been ready,

There's no time to change your mind,

How could you have been so blind,

The Father spoke, the demons dined,

The Son has come and you've been left behind.

4. I've never heard of him before, but did find a link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1FcTKNXlO0

It appears that he is a Rapturist, too. No wonder the song is so depressing :P

2. Nobody's Fault

By Aerosmith

Man has known and now he's blown it upside-down and hell's the only sound.
We did an awful job and now we're just a little too late...

10. Let the Kingdom Come -- World Party
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHxPgl8YFmk

Now here comes the world,
Here comes the moon and the sun.
From the top of the pyramid
You can see everyone.

Over here is the desert,
Over there is the frozen north.
In Sweden they are blond.
In Africa they're black,
For what it's worth.

The eagle's getting tired,
The bear cannot flap his wings,
People are running scared
As the little girl sings
What goes up,
Surely must ome down.
Don't keep your head in the ground.

Let the kingdom come.
And there's always more ...

Forever, Forever, wandering around my cave.
Forever, Forever, walking past my window.
Forever, Forever, wandering around my cave.
Forever, Forever, walking past my window.
Forever, Forever, wandering around my cave.

Finding the girl,
Follow her down to the stream.
Well you're scanning the walls,
Seaching for stills from your dreams.
You know the pandas are skating
On very thin ice.
If you understand me tap once, babe.
If you don't, just tap twice.

Please let the Kingdom Come.

Yeah, the money is so different,
These computers are cute.
You better phone home right now,
See if they can find your lost parachute.
Well the best lack all conviction,
While the worst is yet to come.
You got to pick the politician up,
Kick his bum.

Roll over Beethoven. Let the Kingdom Come.
Let the Kingdom Come.

Don't it just flow through you.
Don't it just flow through everyone.

16. City Boy - The Day The Earth Caught Fire
Edited on Tue May-17-11 03:35 PM by Swede
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRMD35QXuFE

The day the Earth caught fire
We stood outside the world was laughing
And in the city square
They cast umbrellas to the sky
The sun above my head was burning greedy red
The horns began to blow "Three Cheers for jericho"

The first evacuee
I was headed for the sea, I saw them
The roadside refugees
The boys with bloody knees who waved
Abandoned cars that lay too tired to drive away
"A World in Flames Today" was all the papers
Had to say

Run for your life (The Earth's caught fire)
Run for your life (The Earth's caught fire)
Run, run, run
Run for your life (The Earth's on fire)
Run for your life (The Earth's on fire)
Run, run, run

The streetcar prophet said,
"You thought that God was dead-I warned you
The sinners and the saved
They fell down to their knees and prayed
Believers held their breath and stoned a witch to death
The leaders and the led said "Blow the bloody
Reds away!"

Run for your life (The Earth's caught fire)
Run for your life (The Earth's caught fire)
Run, run, run
Run for your life (The Earth's on fire)
Run for your life (The Earth's on fire)
Run. run, run

17. Fly Me to the Moon - Frank Sinatra
Fly me to the moon
Let me sing among those stars
Let me see what spring is like
On jupiter and mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby kiss me
Fill my heart with song
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you

Did you ever notice that almost every song in that movie is about death? Only "Rock Candy Mountain" isn't, that I recall :)

22. In the year 2525 -Zager and Evans

In the year 7510
If God's a-comin' he ought to make it by then
Maybe he'll look around himself and say
Guess it's time for the Judgement day

In the year 8510
God's gonna shake his mighty head
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down and start again

24. Everclear: Santa Monica
I am still living with your ghost
Lonely and dreaming of the west coast
I don't want to be your downtime
I don't want to be your stupid game

With my big black boots and an old suitcase
I do believe I'll find myself a new place
I don't want to be the bad guy
I don't want do your sleepwalk dance anymore
I just want to see some palm trees
I will try and shake away this disease

We can live beside the ocean
Leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers
Watch the world die

We can live beside the ocean
Leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers
Watch the world die

I am still dreaming of you face
Hungry and hollow for all the things you took away
I don't want to be your good time
I don't want to be your fall back crutch anymore

I'll walk right out into a brand new day
Insane and rising in my own weird way
I don't want to be the bad guy
I don't want to do your sleepwalk dance anymore
I just want to feel some sunshine
I just want to find some place to be alone

We can live beside the ocean
Leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers
Watch the world die

We can live beside the ocean
Leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers
Watch the world die

We can live beside the ocean
Leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers
Watch the world die

We can live beside the ocean
Leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers
Watch the world die

Yeah watch the world die
Yeah watch the world die
Yeah watch the world die
Yeah watch the world die

25. American Pie
A long, long time ago
I can still remember how
That music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while
But February made me shiver
With every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died(*)

So, bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Did you write the book of love
And do you have faith in God above
If the Bible tells you so
Now do you believe in rock and roll
Can music save your mortal soul
And can you teach me how to dance real slow

Well, I know that you're in love with him
'Cause I saw you dancin' in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues
I was a lonely teenage broncin' buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the music died
I started singin'

Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Now, for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rolling stone
But, that's not how it used to be
When the jester sang for the king and queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
And a voice that came from you and me
Oh, and while the king was looking down
The jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned
And while Lennon read a book on Marx
The quartet practiced in the park
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died
We were singin'

Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Helter skelter in a summer swelter
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter
Eight miles high and falling fast
Landed flat on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast
Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh, but we never got the chance
'Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died
We started singin'

Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Oh, and there we were all in one place
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again
So come on Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack Flash sat on a candlestick
'Cause fire is the devil's only friend
And as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell
Could break that Satan's spell
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw Satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
He was singin'

Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play
And in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed
But not a word was
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died
And they were singin'

Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

They were singin'
Bye, bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry
Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
