Jerry Lewis to retire from the MDA telethon.

After 45 years of hosting the Labor Day telethon, Jerry Lewis released a statement this morning saying it would be his last. I have been an MDA supporter since 1978, and have watched every telethon since 1975. MDA has raised over $1 billion dollars over the years to fight these horrible neuro-muscular diseases. I thank Jerry for all he has done to make MDA and the telethon the success it is. I have no doubt that we will find a cure for all neuro-muscular diseases over time. From now all, Labor Day will be a little sadder for me because Jerry is not on.

Thanks again Jerry, you are definitely one of my heroes!!!

1. I'd say 45 years is enough...

...I've seen him struggle through a few telethons when his health was clearly failing him, but he made it.

He's a controversial figure, in a number of ways, but only the hardest-heated person can turn their back on what the telethons have accomplished.
