El Presidente has decided to start sharing a little info about his upcoming "project", Tropico 4. So, every few days, he'll be releasing a bit more info about the game in a Q&A format.
To begin, here are two questions fans have been dying to have answered.
Q: With 10 new islands and 20 new missions, what sort of challenges should players expect in Tropico 4?
A: Tropico 4 expands and improves the gameplay of its predecessors, adding new mechanics such as crime, the Council of Ministers, imports, new foreign geopolitical powers as well as 20 new buildings for your island.
We are introducing several new disasters such as Volcanoes, Tornadoes, Fires and even a Tsunami. All these disasters are very visual and most of them allow for some kind of player interaction beyond just rebuilding what was destroyed. For example you can prioritize putting out fires, saving your most important buildings first. You can also pay a hefty sum to call in a helicopter that dumps water on the selected burning building.
We revisited and redesigned many of the old features, such as tourism and foreign politics. We also reworked the interface both on PC and Xbox 360 to make it more accessible and functional.
Will the maps from Tropico 3 be included?
The maps from Tropico 3 are not compatible with Tropico 4. This is due to both technical and design reasons. Tropico 4 maps are significantly larger, use new environment art, have new kinds of resource deposits and support the new disasters such as volcanoes and tsunami.
We decided against recycling the old maps and instead focused on making larger maps with more visual variety.
