Oprah says God behind success of show

Sorry, but... when I read that Oprah gave God credit for her success, my first thought was ... Sure, God gets all the credit, that is, in the sense that he gave Oprah a soul, which she was able to sell to Satan for a lot of money.

Is that bad of me?

(CNN) – Oprah Winfrey closed her sentimental final show with the words, "I won’t say goodbye, I’ll just say until we meet again."

Then, after a subtle pause, she added, "To God be the glory.”

With her work done, she walked through the audience and left the set of her talk show. During the show's 25-year run, she interviewed more than 30,000 people and won more than 40 Emmys. The credits rolled as she walked the hallways of the Harpo complex, saying goodbye to her staff.

2. Right.
worldwide plague, famine, war, disease ... and of couse God chooses to shine his everlasting light on a fucking TV show. Where do these people get the arrogance???? Reminds me of when baseball (or name your sport) players give credit to the almighty, like that's the most important thing he/she has to do in the world - give some idiot a home run.

3. Well, I have to defend her.
First, I'm an atheist, at least where the "Big Daddy in the Sky" concept of God comes in. But from what I've seen of Oprah over the years, and I've seen a reasonable amount, she does quite a bit of good, tries to present diverse ideas in a fair light, and is curious about the ways in which the concept of "God" are explored and believed in by people. She has her own beliefs, which are interesting enough and it's not my concern to judge their veracity as long as she doesn't hurt anyone.

I just can't see the harm in it. If she believes one way and I believe another and she tries to do good out of her system of belief and I believe in freedom of thought then how can I ridicule her?

It's not "bad" of you to say she sold her soul to Satan but I don't see the point or agree with the concept. She makes money doing something that many people like. Could be a lot worse. Good on her, I say.

8. You should have anticipated that.
I expected to see a lot more Oprah bashing around here.

I never watched the show much. I don't have time to watch daytime TV. What I did see, I liked.

She was a good cultural icon. I appreciate that she got a lot more people to read books. Anytime she endorsed a book or author, she made their career. And she had some good choices, too.

11. of course I anticipated it...I know where I am
I just told her she should have seen it.

Too bad GD can't give a good Democrat a good send off, no matter the differences.

GD never misses a chance to take the low road.

of course, hidden in the I am 4 thread was props to Oprah for her sending 400 abused men to college and of course that thread got 140+ votes but, you had to open it and read it to realize that it was an homage to Oprah.

GD is schizo.

10. If I was a billionaire, I'd do nice things for other people as well
But God just made me a middle class, Bachelor of Science graduate, working my ass off girl in suburbia.

She doesn't hurt me either...but where was God when all of my family died?

9. I was never a huge fan, but.....
In a daytime TV world full of soaps, Jerry Springer, Maury, Montel, etc., Oprah at least tried to provide some content worthy of time and thought.

13. Except in her early years, she was a tabloid show just like Springer and Sally and Maury
Hope what ever replaces her doesn't go back to that crap.

14. True that...
I think one of the things I respect about her is that she made a decision to change that, and stuck with it.

Again, I'm not a big fan myself (daytime TV in general just doesn't thrill me), but it's hard not to respect her.

12. My dog is actually named Lucky so I believe you!
She is such a good little pudding girl. Once a rabbit, perhaps intent on suicide, ran right in front of her and she just looked at me and laughed. Now I am going to pet her!
