1. As good as the Yardbirds' original was,
the cover by pre-Buckingham/Nicks Fleetwood Mac is even better. Apparently there is no video thereof. Nothin' turned up on teh Google or YouTube.

Pointless trivia: the song was written by Graham Gouldman, who wrote a bunch of hits for the Hollies and went on to play bass and write in 10cc.

2. It was also the song that made Clapton want to leave the Yardbirds...
...ht thought they'd "lost their direction" and didn't want to be part of a pop group.

3. Yeah, I remember that story
Guess EC changed his mind about "pop" a decade or so later. But considering that the first thing he did post Yardbirds was Cream, I guess he went in the right direction from the YBs.

5. First post-Yardbirds gig was John Mayall's Bluesbreakers...
...recorded April 66, released July 66:

"Fresh Cream" was released in December 66 and recorded July-October 1966.

So Clapton performed with Mayall, recorded that one album, and split the moment it was released.

The irony is that while he did make the "pop group" comments regarding the Yarbirds, he felt that Mayall's uber-traditionalist "school of the blues" environment wasn;t what he was looking for, either.
