Gerry (19?? - 2003) :(

Apparently my dad found Gerry dead on the sidewalk this morning. She was as sweet a cat as there ever was, and I've never known a cat that liked attention as much as her. It took her a while, though. When she first adopted us, she would eat food we put out, but would run away unless we approached her with extreme caution... and she would never come in the house. Cut to a couple of years later and she would jump up on the mousepad or keyboard while I was at the computer to get me to pet her.

Anyway, I don't know exactly how old she was, because when she adopted us back in 1992, she was already a full-grown cat, but I guess she was at least 11... and I know those last 11 years were good ones for her.

Have you hugged your pet today?

1. So sorry, Such a gorgeous kitty
I'm going to give Max a big hug when I get into bed - that's where he's sleeping now.

And a hug to you too {{{{{{{{{MoonGod}}}}}}}}

Birdsong. An ode to Ms. Joplin. My condolences on your loss. Please go adopt in a few weeks. Kittys need homes.

5. I'm Sorry
I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.

You and her family gave her a happy, loving home, and though she left too soon, without you, I doubt she would have had those eleven years. You and your family did a kind thing to show her such love and kindness.

7. sorry for your loss--my sweet cat Naney died 3 weeks ago suddenly
I was so sad. We had her for 9 years. She used to sit up with me at night on the computer.
I miss her.
My deepest sympathy to you after losing your Gerry.

8. *hugs*
Yes. Gerry used to sit up with me at night on the computer, too. Except she was literally sitting on the computer ;)

Loved that cat. Glad I got to know her.

Hmm. We had another cat years ago... great cat, too... who used to sit and read w/me. Most cats I've known will get ON whatever I'm reading or just go and do something else, but Midnight would lie down right next to me and stare at whatever I was reading. I'm not sure exactly what he was experiencing, but we both seemed to enjoy it, so that was cool. :)

9. Fur Children...
are a real blessing! Gerry looks a great deal like my wife's cat, Putzin (15 years old). My heartfelt condolences to you. Also from DC, Tootsie, Putzin, and Pookey. Three of the four are former 'discards' that found their way to our door over the course of the past 7 years. They are our 'fur children', and their fur has absorbed many tears and kisses over the years. We would be very unhappy without their love.

13. Thanks for your kind words everybody
I'm alright. Really I am.

I suppose I'll feel pangs of sadness when I go over to my dad's house and realize Gerry's not there. But all in all, I'm glad I got to know her and spend time w/her.

I hope my dad's alright, too. He was never a cat person at all until he met Gerry, whom he loved.. she kept him company in what was otherwise a big, lonely house for many of these last 11 years.

Anyway, thanks all. You're great.

Gerry was truly a pretty kitty. I know you and your father will miss her terribly. I hope another kitty will adopt him soon. Sure, it won't be Gerry, but it will be great comfort to you both.
