I lost my dog on Friday.
RIP, Gordie.

He was a rescue dog. He might have been 3 when we got him, but I think he was a bit older. He was full of love and life and energy. He even made it through double thyroid cancer two and a half years ago.

He eventually had hip problems, then back problems, and finally, Cushing's. He couldn't walk recently but we were happy to carry him and then put him in his stroller. He finally let us know it was time last week.

We loved him deeply and it was hard to let him go.

5. :(
Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you.....
I loved you so --
'twas Heaven here with you.

8. Oh no! I'm so very sorry
Bless you for doing the right thing even though it just rips out your heart. It was your last act of love for him, and Gordie will be eternally grateful as he was for everything else you did for him in life.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how terribly it hurts.

13. No, we have a younger one.
We got her when he was "widowed" a few years ago (and he came when we lost our other dog's brother). Bonnie is doing pretty well. She's had four good days with Mom and Dad, being outside a lot, hiking, going to the beach, etc. But I can tell she misses him too.

20. I feel your pain and know how hard it is to let a beloved
pet go. I had to send my Rottweiler to doggie heaven last July. It was the hardest and most heartbreaking thing I ever had to do. She had bone and liver cancer and could no longer even stand on her four legs. I couldn't carry her as she was too heavy. It will take a while to overcome the grief, but know that you did the right thing because your dog is no longer in pain.
