I'm just surfing the TV and come across that show on CMT.

Now I've seen it before and I have seen them do some pretty neat modifications, but so much of what they do is COMPLETELY impractical for a working truck, not to mention someone who has to live in one.

They modified this one Peterbilt with a stainless steel frame cover, rear of the 5th wheel. Sure, it looks great, but the first time the guy has to back under a loaded trailer that is a tad too low on its landing gear, that cover is going to be shredded by the trailers kingpin. They modified the guys sleeper to include a dopey, pointless light box in the tiny closet most Pete's have, basically rendering it useless for hanging clothes in it anymore.

I'm watching one right now where they are trying to make the truck look like a "Grave Digger" monster truck. They raised the quarter fenders (Fenders that sit forward of the forward drive wheels) to make it look like it was riding higher than it actually is. The problem is, as soon as that driver takes a turn with a trailer on, it is going to tear the hell out of the fenders!

Look fellas, just chrome it up, paint it, do the dash and the seat, but leave the rest of the stupid, impractical stuff on the drawing board.

The absurd overacting when they do the "reveal" is a bit over the top as well.

1. Tire question,
I've been wondering about the concept of one wider tire on the tractor drive tires rather than duals. As somewhat of a tire freak I like the look of a single wide tire, but have wondered what you who drive thought of this idea. Talking about, say, the 'Michelin X ONE' or similar tire concept.

2. "Super Singles"

Like these?

I've never driven a truck equipped with them, but they are becoming more and more popular.

I admit I haven't read too much about them - whether or not they ride better, if they are truly cheaper than duals (I am sure they are) over time, wear issues, etc.

I do know that when they were first introduced there was a big concern about using them on hazardous loads like gasoline tankers, cause if one blows you risk dragging the wheel on the ground as there is nothing next to it for support. But I am seeing them more often on fuel tankers as well as many other types of trucks.

3. Yup, super singles,
that was a thought of mine, if one blows then your on the rim, unless there is a system built in to compensate. I guess if they are showing up more then these concerns are being addressed.

thanks for your thoughts.

4. You're right about the show being a little loopy.
Heavy equipment is the last place to forgo dependability and utility for flash and bling.
The reveal is visibly awkward for everyone involved but the producer.

What interior/exterior mods do you wish YOU had?
And would you like to be Grave Digger for Halloween?

Or "Deeply Rooted"?

BTW We need more big rig threads.
