need typography suggestions
i need an accent font for optima. i did not pick optima, i hate helvetica and all it's spawn. i hate the very word clean.

i like double storey g's, and serifs with awkward angles. and nifty special characters. but i think the most i can get away with is something a little art deco.
either an adobe font, or a macware font. or something i can get at dafont.

it's a fundraiser invite, and there is a nice smooth wave for a logo.

5. Minion Pro...
It's not art deco but I think it's a good serif match for Optima. Any Garamond except the ITC cut.

Bodoni may skew art deco. With Bodoni, be sure to pair kern any lowercase letter with an uppercase. Nothing shouts "amateur typesetting" more than poor pair kerning.

Since I don't know how or where it's being used it's tough to give you a real suggestion.

18. Optima is tough to pair
It's a world unto itself, being neither fish (serif) nor fowl (sanserif). Although, technically it is a serif face, it tends to act more like sanserif. Therefore, I think you are on the right track with something deco-ish with outlandish serifs. You need something slightly wild to offset the boring optima.

19. sadly, it is not up to me.
flowing serifs have been shot down. i like the toplar, tho, and they were meant to go together is my understanding.
but yeah, why people like boring is beyond me.

is there a name for a cap m that looks like upside down v's? not crisscrossed, just sort of, well, wide stance.
although i wish i knew the name for the w's with the crisscross middle, also.

23. i can't believe it. i got fired.
the design that was "good" on wednesday was shot full of lead on friday. somebody else's deadline freakout i'm guessing. it is way behind.
but an epic freakout. when the project was pretty much ready to go in the mail.
throw this out. throw that out. make it fit in a #10 envelope. but it's an a6.
just do it. just get it done. i have other clients. i don't care.
but then, why?

but it would be done if you could just tell me what you want in it.

omfg

i haven't had a job in 15 years, and that was a short one. before that another 12.
and i have been fired twice in 2 weeks. welcome back to the work force.

(i got fired for refusing to cover up a tattoo with a bad word. which had been on full display at the interview.)

24. I hear you
I've been doing some freebies for our local museum in the hopes of picking up some paying work. The CEO finally approved version 11 of the first brochure I did for them. I told them they couldn't do that again—they needed to give me finalized copy that the CEO had approved before I did any kind of layout. Mind you, I expect to make a few changes and corrections by the time it gets into layout, but eleven major revisions? I just finished a second brochure with only one major change due to switching people with whom I work and their lack of communication with each other, and some minor corrections. They are thrilled with the results.
