Again, no coffee and donuts?

Where's our Refreshment Committee?

4. I don't know what the Refreshment Committee decided at their meeting.
I haven't attended any of their meetings since we had all that trouble reaching consensus in July between the pie and punch versus the coffee and donut people

Why? Were you there? Do you have a report?

5. No, it was in the email
"…punch and pie." The password was "La Resistance."

10. Are you sure it went to the right email address? The Communications Committee
insisted I change email accounts every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. If it didn't go to the right address I would have trouble finding it

Anyway, I just went through the dozen or so accounts I've used in the last month, I can't find it. Unfortunately, these free accounts get a lot of spam: I could get a hundred emails a day from Russian women looking for love, Nigerian bank officials, male-enhancement product companies, and such

3. While we're waiting for the refreshments and agenda, let me update you on our situation
with the Anarcho-Revolutionary Hobbyists

As some of you know, our Sexual Politics co-chairs recently divorced, and there was a bit of a bourgeois spat over who would get to keep the dog. So then the next I knew, the Y was reserving this room on third Fridays for some group called the "Anarcho-Revolutionary Hobbyists." If you see any of their fliers in the building, take them down. It was confusing with the front office for a while, but we do still have this room on second Fridays. Let me add that I'm sad to see the movement splinter this way over petty personal matters, especially when objective conditions are so favorable

Any word on the refreshments yet?

8. Rather than re-opening that debate today, I think it would be best if I simply recommended
that you read the excellent green paper Authoritarian Organizational Structures, #4: Theoretical and Practical Implications of Philosophical Disagreement in the Three Boroughs Committee during its Early Years, 1968-1969 by "Barricados"

That used to be available in our bookstore, before it closed, but perhaps one of our older members could lend you the mimeograph. I think we produced about five thousand copies, but it didn't sell as well as we expected, so there should still be some left in a box in somebody's closet

9. Ohhh, can it be model rocketry? But with an anarchist bent, of course.
I used to love model rockets as a kid.

11. OK. So for the benefit of our newer members, I suppose I ought to say a few words
about our name

We had some long conversations about this some years ago. Back then, one of our members wanted us to call ourselves "The Hobbyists Club" to avoid FBI infiltration. The issue came up at every meeting for a while. At the time, about half our members were FBI informants, so the more experienced cadre thought that horse had already left the farm, so to speak. But she was really a very nice lady, even though she sometimes had trouble keeping things in proper perspective, and everybody liked her

Well, we thought we had finally put that issue to rest. Then some of the FBI informants started pushing the infamous "stink bombs" plan. We were always able to avoid consensus on that, but the FBI was quite insistent, and in the middle of one meeting one of the informants stood up and shouted "What are we? Fuggin hobbyists?" and stormed out

Unfortunately, this set off that nice woman again, and the next time she reserved our room, she reserved it under the name "The Hobbyists Club." So we had to put "Hobbyists Club" into our name to reach consensus on the name

We can re-open that discussion at another meeting, if people think it's necessary, but I don't think it's on the agenda for today

Just to get back on track: did anybody bring today's agenda?

12. So...no model rockets, then?
Screw you revolutionary anarchist wankers, I'm going to start a model rocket club with no political agenda at all.

Unless we decide to advocate for an absolute dictatorship under the auspices of me. Then we'll get political as all get out.

13. I don't have any problem with model rockets, but I think we'd have to put it to the membership
and reach consensus

As you probably recall, we had a similar discussion a few years ago about Fourth of July fireworks, and our members concluded that our Twenty Point Programme didn't rule out a picnic with fireworks

The only problem with that was that everybody underestimated the impact of our split with the Syndicalist Vanguard Front. Some of our members had called the police to claim the Syndicalist Vanguard were trying to drown children, so their Halloween party got shut down, and everybody associated with the apple-bobbing tub was hauled downtown for questioning

At the time, I thought it served them right, being false-face revisionists and all

But they were determined to even the score, so when we started organizing the Fourth of July picnic, some of our Syndicalist Vanguard comrades called the police on us, claiming we were stockpiling explosive devices, and all of our paper plates and plastic ware and hamburger buns and firecrackers got seized by the State as evidence of some plot

It's a long story, and I don't want to bore everybody by rehashing it all, but things went downhill from there

The situation may be better now. Anyway, the membership will probably want to talk this through first
