So... what totally inappropriate song would you have played at YOUR funeral?
Everyone has one... like a friend of mine whose daughter played (at her mom's behest) "Prop Me up Beside the Jukebox When I Die."
Totally made sense in context, but garnered a lot of indignant sighs from people who didn't know the deceased all that well.

So... what's yours?

These are mine, although Lyric says i should play The Cramps' "Surfin' Dead"... and that would work too. *L*

My intro: Joy Division - "Atrocity Exhibition"

Conclusion: Joy Division - "Atmosphere"

1. Born to be Wild
Or, if my husband's feeling especially frisky, he knows I love "It's the End of the World As We Know It".

Let's just say there will be lots and lots of totally inappropriate things at my funeral. If anyone's wearing black, I'll be back to haunt them.

:woohoo:

2. There'll be a lot of 'black-wearing' folks at mine...
But that's because most of my old friends are punks, goths , and metalheads... Black is the whole wardrobe!

Love that REM song, btw...

36. I danced to it on New Year's Eve, 2000
My husband spent the previous two years doing Y2K remediation. It's the only time our phone rang after midnight when it wasn't an emergency. ;-) The guys he worked with were calling us as the clock rolled over around the world...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0GFRcFm-aY

The song that really will be played at whatever gathering there is, besides "Born to Be Wild": "In My Life"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zI0Q8ytD44Y

Let's hear it for the punks, goths and metalheads. Another great song for a funeral, in my opinion...

14. I actually wrote and stage-designed my entire funeral.
Made all the arrangements including asking my friends to learn their respective roles. One's presiding, another is playing the music on his guitar and he had to learn the acoustic versions of the songs, I also arranged the speakers, readings and "ceremony" of the whole thing. It's what I gave myself for turning 23.

It's going to be an interesting experience.

This is the processional. Elliott Smith-A Fond Farewell http://youtu.be/nabO_UXb6MM

The rest of the ceremony is every bit that fucked up.

47. "Please Don't Bury Me" by John Prine
This is not too far from what I have instructed my friends and family.
Donate my body parts to whoever needs or wants it...burn what ever is left. I would like my skeleton to hang in some classroom somewhere.

Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EE-d3IDwPVc&hd=1

Lyrics:

I woke up this morning
Put on my slippers
Walked in the kitchen and died

And oh what a feelin
When my soul went through the ceiling
And on up to heaven I did ride.
When I got there they did say
"John, it happened this 'a way:
You slipped upon the floor and hit your head!
And all the angels say, just before you passed away,
These were the very last words that you said:

Chorus:

Please don't bury me down in the cold cold ground!
I'd rather have them cut me up and pass me all around!
Throw my brain in a hurricane,
The blind can have my eyes,
And the deaf can take both a' my ears if they don't mind the size!

Give my stomach to Milwaukee if they run out of beer,
Put my socks in a cedar box - just get 'em outta here!
Venus de Milo can have my arms -
Look out, I've got your nose!
Sell my heart to the junk man,
And give my love to Rose!

(chorus)

Give my feet to the footloose,
Careless fancy free.
Give my knees to the needy -
Don't pull that stuff on me!
Hand me down my walkin' cane;
It's a sin to tell a lie.
Send my mouth way down south
And kiss my ass goodbye!

(chorus)

Chorus:
Let's not have a sniffle
Let's have a bloody great cry
And always remember the longer you live
The sooner you bloody well die

Ah, look at the mourners
Bloody great hypocrites
Isn't it grand, boys
To be bloody well dead... etc.
