DVD/Blu-ray annoyances

I just put in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 Blu-ray in my PS3, only to find I could not fast-forward through the stupid ads in the beginning. These were not movie trailers but ads for the video games and the theme park. The theme park one went on for several minutes. Every time I pressed menu, it said "this option is not available here", and also with the next/FF button. I finally kept pressing scan and it eventually got me to the main menu. But, what an annoyance. It' a Netflix disc; I don't know if that matters or not.

Still it seems that this is happening more and more with DVD's.

1. It happens a LOT with Blu-Rays

I've never rented one so I don't know, but I've bought several Blu-Ray discs that lock you into watching the previews and ads before the movie starts. "Red" and "The Men Who Stare at Goats" are two of the worst offenders.

Unfortunately, you can't use the fast-forward buttons on my machine (it's a Sony; this may tell you something) to get past the crap.

2. Try hitting stop repeatedly. Then play.

Sometimes that will get you by the nonsense.
