Please remind me again why it's important I go to the gym after work.
I really need to get into shape.

Not expecting miracles but my new work health insurance plan requires a physical. Mind you everyone is covered regardless and I don't expect to be in perfect health in 6 weeks. But I just want to go in there and tell them I am trying to get healthy again.

But seriously, I just want to go home and sleep after work.

So someone post why I should be exercizing. Sometimes words of encouragement do help!

1. Question.
Is this a common issue of your place of employ? Are most of your coworkers out of shape?

I ask because my former employer offered a program called Virgin HealthMiles where they'd pay us to exercise in the idea that bribery was cheaper than paying to insure a bunch of sedentary bankers. I think they were getting a discount on the insurance for us participating and were kicking back a small portion of the savings. At-least that was my vague impression of how it worked...they don't pay cash, it goes into an HSA (Tax reasons) but that's at-least useful for co-pays and the such.

^^^That's the information. If it seems like something that might be worthwhile to your employer, bring it in to your HR office. Put the idea in their heads.

Bribery is as good of a reason to walk 2 miles daily as any other. There were monthly contests and promotions too and you can track your daily, weekly, monthly, yearly progress online.

2. Because if you don't get exercise then you get weak, brittle and just feel unhealthy
not to mention any weight issues and heart health.
You've seen those commercials "get out and play an hour a day?"
Everyone should get out and play an hour a day, not just kids.

Sorry I'm not much of a motivator I guess.

I don't see why you necessarily have to go to a gym after work though. Why not after dinner?
Go home and relax, have dinner and then go to the gym?

3. "Cute guys don't like flabby thighs"
Seriously, exercise helps with sleep and a multitude of mental functions which generally makes you happier and more productive.

The trick is finding a type of exercise you enjoy so you do it for its own sake.

If you see a big blonde with a Chris Coons for Senate t-shirt on - that's me. I'm heading over there in 30 minutes.

6. If you exercise after work, you will have more energy and not want to sleep after work.
It will increase your energy level overall and you'll feel better physically. It'll take a couple of weeks to get used to the routine but it's worth it. Don't take the easy way out!

7. Here's another idea.
Why don't you start out by walking. Just in your neighborhood and also maybe do some exercises at home? Maybe a fitness video or something.

8. have you tried going before work?
i find that since i wake up slowly, it's better for me to do something mindless like exercise first thing in the morning

when i had a job after work wouldn't do anyway -- too many happy hours, friends, professional associations, whatever

exercise is better if you do it as a habit every day without thinking, instead of if you have to struggle each day to make the decision to exercise or not

just an idea, it worked for me, i have exercised at least 30 minutes a day for pretty much every day for 40 years, however, sometimes it's low impact exercise...you should not do machines/weight lifting every day!!!

9. You'll be glad you did!
It has been sooooo hard to get into working out. I have to repeat to myself "You will be glad you did it" I even have to think "Just do it" lol

I've got a picture in my head of how I want to be by the time I'm 50. I'm saving for a facelift, gonna have eye surgery and get my teeth fixed again. I'll learn to drive. I'm gonna be a frikin MONSTER  :silly: ... so yeah this means I have to go do sit-ups right now.. thanks I guess lol

15. Well, I've lost about 40 pounds in the last 14 months or so,
by doing elevated cardio for an hour every day after work. I've gone down two pant-sizes, and my wife keeps on exclaiming how much she likes the way I look. Plus, it's a great stress-reliever for a very stressful job.

Weight loss, looking good, stress relief; are those enough of a reminder, Lynn? :P
