Poll question: Have you ever been served glazed SPAM as a main course at a holiday meal?

I'm referring to the unfortunate recipe that "Woman's Day" or some other similar plague on society published that basically involved plopping a whole loaf of SPAM on a baking dish, scoring it diagonally on all surfaces, putting whole cloves into each of the junctions, topping it with a pineapple ring slice with a marichino cherry in the center and soaking it in a brown sugar syrup before baking it into something beyond disgusting. E-FUCKING-GADS!

1. Unfortunately.

Not just holidays. It's one of my biological father's favorite foods...and because he was a sadist who hated variety, we had it 4 times a week. Then we'd have Spam sandwiches until the Spam was gone...then he'd bake another one. It was the standing omnipresent cold meat in our household.

2. Well, to be fair, for as much fun as we make of it the ingredients aren't all that bad compared....

Funny thing: The word "SPAM" is a contraction of "SPICED HAM". The only "spice" in it is salt.

My mother-in-law one Thanksgiving served us a, "Turkey type of thing", (her words when we asked, 'What is that?"). Apparently, the turkey type of thing went wonderfully with the glittery mashed potatoes - we were afraid to ask. But man, that woman sure knew her way around when it came to baking pies.

Oh hell, I'd probably try it if it was done up in some creative way.

I eat Underwood Deviled Ham all the time and I'm sure that is little more than pig ass and rat toes.

I went to a pot luck thing once where a lady made some kind of dip with Spam and orange marmalade and I ate a bunch of it before they told me it was Spam. I am pretty sure it was merely coincidence that my hunger abated as I was learning that fact.

18. Fried SPAM, Velveeta, iceburg lettuce, and fake mayonaise sandwiches on white bread.

Cut off the crusts just for fun. And a little French's yellow goop that they call mustard would be a nice touch also.

16. My Aunt used to make it for me when I stayed with her and got

off work. It was quite good, she was heavy on the brown sugar and pineapples. Never for a holiday meal though.

17. I've eaten Spam, but I wouldn't BUY it . . . however,

thin-sliced spam fried real hot in some butter is very good with easy-over eggs for breakfast.
If you're on a boat.
And if you've got lots of strong coffee to wash it down with.
And, of course, toast.

Fry it with some onion, nice and crunchy!
