4. How far off? Did you sit and wonder?
And did you start humming a song from 1962?

7. When you just don't seem to have as much to lose

Strange how the night moves
With autumn closing in

11. Didn't appreciate those lines back when I was a teen and this song was new.
Now I'm pushing 50, and those lines hit just a bit harder.

I guess I'm more like the guy singing the last verse than the guy he's singing about in the first.

Still love it, though.

6. Oh, I hope it keeps raining there, but not too hard too fast.
My sister is there and tells me that it is dire. They have lost a couple of trees that were huge old trees---had lived through a lot of ups and downs in the weather.

8. Yes, we've lost at least a half dozen big trees - 60' pines and oaks
BIG trees.

If it just rains 1/2" every day for the rest of the year, we'll catch up. That's all. Just 1/2" a day.

9. Good luck with that. How much rain did you get this time?
It would be wonderful to just have 1/2" a day. Problem is that there is often too much rain at one time in Houston. I wish you well.

And from what I am told by my sister, deciduous trees that have dropped all their leaves may not be dead and may leaf out if you get enough rain in time. The loss of leaves is a survival mechanism. It is the trees who still have leaves on them but the leaves are dead that are goners. Don't rush to take them down if you can wait.

10. Your sister has a lot of experience...
...and our oaks are all still fully decked out with brown leaves - they dead.

We got about 1" of rain in our neck of the woods. Thanks for your kind words.

It was most welcome. :D
