1. On and off for the last few days

I thought it was me.

Earlier today I was thinking of asking this same question. I'm relieved to find out that somebody else has been having the same problem, so maybe it's not my computer doing something wacko for no reason that I can fathom.

2. I know. My computer and programs are going on ten years old. I so don't want to have to

replace them, and , I cannot afford a computer tech right now either. So any time my computer acts up I worry.

5. You might want to do a few basic things...

like defragment your hard drive and run malware and virus scans. Delete your cookies and clean off unused programs and shit that might be running in the background.

If you want a new computer and don't want to pay for it, you might subscribe to a local freecycle list.
I am about to give away at least one computer and monitor to someone who posted there asking for one. I was gearing up to take them to the recycling center or the dump but they work fine, just at yesterday's speed.

7. do you have a cable modem?

we have time warner, roadrunner, and never really had an internet speed problem. their teevee cable service sucks though, and in a BAD way.... and we only pay $197 a month.

then i started reading about how they want to slow down service for certain sites... and have tiers of speed for cable modems. and strangely enough, it seemed our internet was slowing down.

now, every time i call to bitch about their shitty teevee service, they try to get me to UPGRADE to even "faster" cable internet. they call it "turbo".

i said no, and if they raised the rates any more i was going to start cutting things out.

unfortunately i don't have enough sky space to get a satellite dish, or i would have one already.

time warner has extremely crappy cable service, and the hd channels are the worst.

to go through my computer and get rid of junk and clean it up.
