It just occurred to me the other day that they might.

1. My father's last days were all bad
He very methodically and deliberately drank himself to death. (He told me, when I was 8, that we'd all be better off when he was dead. He WAS correct about that, but it didn't lesson the pain or the trauma.)

He was not able to work for months before his death, but his rage increased exponentially. We all were terrified of him because everything set him off, and he was physically violent. He finally died of cirrhosis when I was 10. It was a long dying. I can't imagine any alcoholic could have "good days" when both the liver and the brain have been destroyed.

2. I had a friend who drank herself to death

Once the downward spiral began, there were no good days. It was such a shame to watch over the five years I knew her. She had wonderful family, medical insurance and opportunity for care from doctors who really tried to help, but she refused it all. It was awful and her family suffered right along with her. :(
