OK, I confess: the first I've ever really heard (listened to) Radiohead was

1. I know they have a following, but I can't stand them.

I really don't care for music that's that 'arty.' Even though I'm no fan of pop either, I still need a song that I can sink my teeth into and recognize as a song. And Thom York's voice makes me cringe whenever I hear it.

I was never all that familiar with the band myself, thus I was amazed to find that I could almost always recognize them on the radio, even if I'd never heard the song before. I realized that the common denominator was his voice: it bothers me that much.

2. I really like blues, rock, classical and will confess to loving

a wide variety of 70s and 80s music (from my grade school and teenage years) but I'd never paid much attention to Radiohead.

Thom York's voice didn't grate on me while I was listening earlier, but it may over time. I liked a few of their songs, but not all of them. But the more lyrical / harmonious the music, the happier I am.

Colbert seems to love them, which is one of the main reasons I paid attention, to be honest. I like Colbert's quirkiness and figured the music would at least be interesting.

10. You would probably like their breakthrough album "The Bends"

It's the point of origin for Coldplay, Travis, and a hundred other British acts mining the quirky but melodic sound Radiohead achieved on that album.

7. I have a love-hate relationship with Radiohead.

They're diverse; not a band that has a 'sound', they experiment a lot. For me it's hit or miss, some of it I love and some of it I don't. Either way, Thom York is a genius.

If you're looking to explore their music, pick up "OK Computer", my favorite.

pick up "OK Computer," get yourself into a proper frame of mind, whatever that means for you, and give it an uninterrupted 45 minutes. I'm an old 70's freak, Neil Young, Dylan, Stones, etc but I can kick back and enjoy Radiohead.

OK Computer is one of the best albums, ever. And Kid A helped me get through a nervous breakdown. The band has been together since 1985 (thanks Wikipedia!). Guitarist Jonny Greenwood wrote the orchestral score for There Will Be Blood. It is awesome.

I do love The Bends and Pablo Honey too, and I admit Thom Yorke's voice does take some getting used to. After the Colbert Report, I bought and downloaded The King of Limbs. $9 off the band's website!

Then you'll go smoothly into Ok Computer and Kid A. Amnesiac and Hail take a while together used to.

That you get off the bandwagon after Kid A. I like Kid A, but it just has this air of "trying too hard" that makes it seem quaint in retrospect. I think with each subsequent album they were able reign in their "Look at us and how arty we are!!!" tendencies and balance their earlier, more organic stuff with the experimental bent they were going for on Kid A.

I don't like the newest one (King of Limbs) but I think In Rainbows was the best balance they have struck between the organic "rock" material of O.K. Computer, with some of the more forward thinking stuff on Kid A and Amnesiac.

19. Funny, I was the opposite, I'm working backward.

Except for Creep and Karma Police I really never got into them. My BF kept trying to get me into one of his favs, Kid A,and I just kept bailing after first four songs or so. Then King of Limbs came out and I dug the entire album instantly, that led me to Amnesiac which I also love. Still working on learning the rest but I fell in love with Thom in this video.

..where traditional, more "classic" rock fans would not be able to stomach them.

The first 2 albums (Pablo Honey and The Bends) are fairly traditional, straight forward, Bowie style British pop/rock.

But everything after that delves into more experimental and electronic music elements that are admittedly not everyon's bag.

24. When you say Radiohead I think of Creep

and I like that song but I have not heard anything else by them that does much for me. And I am certainly not afraid of weird or quirky but I didn't like whatever it was they did on SNL the other night. I do, however, believe they are good musicians and I appreciate that they do their thing and it seems like they do it for them and not for commercial appeal so they get a star from me for that.

Much like Tool, another band I just can't get into but I appreciate their musicianship.
