of that. The only other time was when I had my wisdom teeth out. The stitches hurt so much that first night I cut them out myself (my mother refused, even though she was a doctor). No big deal. In time the gaping holes filled themselves in.

1. I've been lucky. Only a few minor ones.

Had a hernia repair when I was 12, wisdom teeth out when I was 21, a thumb reattached/skin graft when I was 25, and a vasectomy when I was 31.

Sorta hoping that's it!

3. 13 months ago I dislocated both shoulders while hiking on rocks

My right shoulder popped back in of its own accord a few days later, but my left shoulder required a few screws on the ball and a chipped socket... Still hurts just thinking about it. It took three months before I could use my left arm and longer before range of motion returned. Long story, even longer rehab period...all DIY.

5. I had impacted wisdom teeth cut out.

Being put under was a freaky experience. It's like one instant I was being rolled into the operating room, the next instant I'm waking up in the recovery room with gauze in my mouth!

8. I have had 5 surgeries

First one - wisdom teeth. Then 3 c-sections (not in a row, I have 4 kids). Then gallbladder. Even though the gallbladder was laproscopic I was amazed at how much it hurt. Not as bad as a c-section but still. Mind you I had 4 kids to take care of, lol, so I didn't take the pain meds afterwards.

Wisdom teeth taken out by a sadistic dentist for my senior year spring break (thanks, Mom) - 1970
Tubal ligation as the best birth control for me.
Rotator cuff surgery which turned into complete left shoulder reconstruction - 1994
Medial meniscus removed from left knee - 2001
Complete hysterectomy - 2002
Medial meniscus removed from right knee - 2007
Rotator cuff surgery on right shoulder - 2009
Root canal followed by oral surgery 2010

I left out a number of dental things like getting the three baby premolars (which had no adult teeth to replace them) pulled and putting in bridges. Those did not require being knocked out as most of the things above did. The removal of the wisdom teeth should have been done under anesthesia but that dentist barely believed in using a local anesthetic.

Now I'm trying to work up the courage to go talk to the orthopedic surgeon about knee replacement. I can no longer walk any significant distance and want both knees done at the same time. I'm not sure they will go for that, but I am tired of having operations.

10. just having my wisdom teeth cut out

but i don't really consider that an operation. i went to his office, they knocked me out, i woke up, i went home. i don't think they even had to stitch the sockets up, they just packed them. the ensuing infection did hurt pretty badly, tho x(

12. I had my nasal septum straightened

Never again will I want to have a surgery on my nose!!! The first week after the surgery was horrible. I am not understanding why people have nose jobs done voluntary.

13. Hip replacement.

I slipped and fell on an icy driveway on Christmas Day breaking my left hip joint. Replacement surgery, recovery and I was released from the hospital in time for New Year's Eve.
