Help me choose a domain name.
I'm going to build a personal web site to show off my photography and old 3D renderings. But I can't decide on a domain name. I've thought of using rendisity or renderisity because of my past interest in rendering but others I've talked to don't like the name so much. I'd like something a bit abstract sounding but not something totally off the wall. Anything that evokes photography in one way or another would be great. Any ideas?

Thanks!

4. I just used my name.
I figure if anybody is specifically looking for my work, that's what they're going to Google.

In terms of new audiences finding your work, proper SEO and a decent Social Media strategy are more important by miles now. So is cross-posting of your work (with link-backs and proper accreditation!!) with sites that people go to seeking art/photography that are reputable, popular and professional. I don't know what those sites are, I'm a writer not an artist. The approach to collecting eyeballs is the same for all creative endeavors however. Actually it's the same for all endeavors, if you were starting a restaurant I'd be telling you to make sure the info and pictures on your Yelp! page were up to date and contained a link to your website too.

Ultimately, I don't think the choice of a domain name is all that important really* and one can choose anything if one is willing to do the things to make it stick with targeted audiences, generate good publicity and have a solid strategy for getting pageviews and generating leads/commissions/sales/work.

*-Look at many of the major internet brands. How many of their names actually reflect their product? Almost none...they choose names to stick out and be memorable, short and easy to spell.

10. This is true. Thanks. However atm this will not be a professional photog site and...
I want to use it for both personal AND private uses. I don't want to use my name for some of the private uses. For example I frequent a number of internet forums and would like to put up random odds and ends for some of the people on those forums and and I don't really want my name in the link there.

8. I pick simple non-descriptive names for my personal domains...
... because I never know where they might go as my interests change.

A name doesn't have to be descriptive, only memorable. Look at amazon.com -- Who would know that is a place to buy books?
