3. At the moment, Tempranillo's
I've enjoyed tempranillo's for a while, but recently started drinking my way through some of the Spanish bodegas and am really enjoying them. I had a Ladron de Guevara Rioja Crianza Tempranillo last night that was fairly incredible.

5. We have been drinking quite a bit of Montepulciano
They are generally well priced and give a great deep flavor. We like full bodied reds for the most part.

Haven't had it in years though. I worked at a restaurant that had some wicked vintages, back in the day. Barabaresco runs a semi-distant second favorite for me.

Lately I've been enjoying Chiantis. And the 1.5 liter bottles of Concha Y Toro Cabs from Costco. I'm into good value and at $7.50 a bottle, it definitely is an excellent value.

14. The best bottles of wine I have ever drank
were a late-1990s Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet at Boulud in Las Vegas (an industry friend paid the tab after I recommended the bottle and expensed at least part of its staggering cost) and a late 1980s Vosne-Romanee which I drank at the house of a friend who has since decamped to France for good. Absolutely mind-bending experiences both.

Ridge Zinfandels are always a safe bet for a superb bottle in the $30-50 range. Rosemount's Diamond Label series is a great value at $8-12, and Three Buck Chuck Shiraz is surprisingly drinkable.

Homemade, hand bottled, dry farmed grapes grown on the old Spreckels House property, Boyes Hot Springs, California. Asshole owner let me make the improvements on the vines to increase production for the next season, then awarded the contract to his buddy. Ag businessman, I'm not.

17. Chateau Baron Pichon-Longueville
Way back in the olden days, we bought a mid 1980s bottle of this incredible first growth wine. Unbelievable experience. If you like inexpensive wines=k stick with them. Because once you try an expensive one, it'll totally spoil you. This bottle was about $35 at the time--which was expensive for us. I know they're way more than that now. My wife's friends parents were in a wine group together. We used to get to try things like Cheval Blancs, WWII vintage ports and a lot of other incredible wines.

It's the Aldi version of Two Buck Chuck. I'm told it's actually the Gallo winery that produces it. It's about all I can afford at the moment. And, they dropped the price thirty cents to $2.69. Woo hoo! Their other varieties are fairly decent, too. I like them better than some of the more expensive wines I've had in better days.

I always liked Columbia Crest Shiraz. However, it's out of my price range these days, so I don't know if the latest versions are any good.

Several years ago, I had a Pinotage by Cathedral Cellars in South Africa. I don't remember the vintage (2003?), but it was delicious! I would love to get a hold of another bottle or two of the stuff.

21. I wouldn't call myself a wine connoisseur
I prefer distilled liquors. However, I've had some cabernet sauvignons that I've put back in my wine cooler for a few years that absolutely knocked my socks off. They had a much different character than before they were aged, and were superior to anything I've ever had that wasn't put back.
