Headzup!1 "Alexander the Great" on the free Science channel (Dish)
The channel is a freebie this month. This is, "Was Alexander Murdered?"!1

Was it some mosquito thing or murder. They don't even have a body to go on. OMZ a death certificate, June 11, 323 BC.

1. Whaaa?!1 Aristotle was accused, over some grudge about a family slight?!1
But it was probably his cupbearer, with the humongous drinking cup...

And Alex was the first historical dude to have killed so many people up to that time?!1 Hmmm...

2. No final answer, but they say it could have been accidental or an O.D.
There was some root herb that is poisonous in a large amount but was used in small amounts for bowel cleansing.

Plus he had all kinds of SERIOUS wounds from all the battles, plus the SERIES partying, plus PTSD. And that poison was also used for psychiatric conditions like PTSD and depression/grief, that his lover had just died a few months before, a general who "loved me for myself, not as the king." He had built a 5 story funeral pyre for him.

It could have been an O.D., accidental or otherwise. They say.

3. The herb was probably hellebore. Lethal if over medicated.
He did become seriously paranoid and despotic. Toward the end many of his staff were retired with extreme prejudice. Assassination wasn't out of the question.

4. Ur not so cranky as me, but Alex is the first named dude in history
Edited on Mon Nov-14-11 10:54 PM by UTUSN
Well, I'm reading on the free Kindle 1925 books that his daddy Phillip was the first named dude in History.

Anyway, this kid Alexander was just TOO MUCH. I'm saying that "THE GREAT" means "TOO MUCH." I would adore him for himself, not for his being "king."

I'd name my son Alexander. Hades, and I'm not even Phillip.

So at the end he was bad news, eh. Like in The Last King of Scotland or something? Hmmm. O.K.

5. Yeah, like many men who take on too much power, it probably broke him.
Plus, assassination was the preferred Macedonian succession route. Like Russian czars, a Macedonian king seldom died in bed of old age.

Probably the first person named was Narmer, 3100BCE. As the credited unifier of Egypt he had lots of PR. That's in Western History. Quite possible there's a Chinese war lord's name that pre-dates him.

A Kindle book you might enjoy: Dividing the Spoils: The War for Alexander's Empire.
