someone stole our planters
when we bought our house 24 years ago there were 2 cement planters on either side of the front steps. They've been there for as long as the house has stood here and that's 101 years. This morning we went out to rake leaves and they're gone. All that's left is the cement bases. Over the years we had offers to buy them but always said no because we felt they went with the house. Well I guess someone wanted them so badly that they came here in the dead of night and carried them off. Just when you think you've heard it all.

1. That's horrible! Do you have pictures? Post pictures around the neighborhood
and anywhere such posting is allowed, stores, laundry, etc.

2. This little old lady two doors down from me was always having garage sales
Like every other weekend she'd be out there selling clothes, flower pots, and other things.

Well wouldn't you know that this 70 year-old woman was a burglar!

She'd go around to houses where people weren't home and take their stuff and sell it!

She's in jail now. :D

Face it - they think they own everything.

5. in all the years we've owned this house
we've never taken pictures of them. I regret that now but hindsight is 20/20. They had to weigh 100 lbs each so I doubt they were taken by kids.

6. There is a very distinct minority of very unscrupulous landscapers...

8. look up your address on google maps street view
if they are on your front porch you may be able to obtain a picture, although probably not a very high quality, still better than nothing.

12. Google your address and look up the MLS from when it was last sold
Usually Zillow will have it. There will be pics there. They always take a pic of the front door.

7. Check at Tim and Billie's
Or whatever your local architectural salvage dealer is called.

Somebody may have taken them there to sell so they could "get some food for their babies"

Nothing like coming home from work and finding the aluminium downspouts missing, too. Or the potted plants on the porch, or the outside units for the central air...

Thanks for reminding me what the worst thing about living downtown in a historical district was...

11. I got lucky
The mention of a photo of the planters made me think of some of the pictures took of my car shortly after I brought it home and I found one that shows them both. The only place that might have something like them is a Restore. I'll check with them tomorrow.
